With all this talk of rugging......are anyone's horses naked?

There are a few in my field who are naked; a welsh D, two NFs, two gypsy cobs and a 17hh maxi-cob. They all seem to be fine......in fact they could all stand to loose a few pounds!

Well hes 2 1/2 so not in work and never been rugged for warmth since I had him at 6 months. He is a good- doer and chunky but def warm enough.

Hes in overnight now most nights and has a light turnout on in the stable to stop him rubbing his tail... not sure he would in the winter as think he only does it when hot in summer but Im not risking it!
 
Not quite naked, my mare's just in a lightweight with no fill though. Mainly to keep her clean & dry for riding (she's grey).

Still carrying a couple more pounds than I'd like going into spring, roll on the light evenings for after-work hacking

highly bred throughbred mares and thier yearlings in nothamptonshire are all outside and rugless and look fine when you think of thier worth and what they are carrying and not a rug in site.
 
Our CB brood mare has been out 24/7 unrugged and in fact took a huge chunk out of my arm when we were trying to get a rug on her some weeks ago. It is still numb. So I took the hint. She has hard feed and large amounts of hay and there are hedges to shelter against though. She also has company, though he has got four rugs on and it's a wonder his legs aren't buckling under the weight.
 
I'm very tempted to take the rain sheet of my yearling, she only had it on to protect her from the rain and wind we had a couple of weeks back. I just feel mean taking it off now the snow is here

With regard to this post, when we visited the Queen's stud at Hampton Court, we were told that her TB brood mares are all out all the time unrugged as well. Again, they've got good paddocks and hedges. Perhaps my CB has aspirations to be a royal brood mare and is preparing herself.....
 
Our retired cob type was till this morning. It was snowing hard and I thought he looked like he had dropped weight so the old boy had a lightish medium weight popped on.
 
My Haffie is naked and out 24/7 and fat as a pig! I am hoping the cold and snow might make her drop a few pounds or I am going to be in trouble come the Spring.
 
Both my Welsh D and Haffie are unrugged....and fat on just hay! The haffie had about 2 inches of snow just sitting on his back this afternoon

The D is never rugged and the haffie has a LW if it rains for more than a week but only if he's out 24/7.
 
Highland and sec A are out 24/7 without rugs, they have very thick coats and are fine. They could do with losing a few pounds and I'm hoping this will help!
 
Yep, my mare and shetland are naked and very fluffy are goos weights, I rugged up last winter and they came out of winter fat and my mare got lami, I've learnt my lesson, no rugs this year! My boy is rugged coz he's clipped but when it was sunny at the weekend I let him have a few hours naked so he could get the sun on his back!
 
Some of mine are rugged, some are in nature's fluffy coat. None are natives or cobs. The unrugged ones are regularly checked and on the whole seem to be faring better than the rugged horses.
 
Sec c mare is unrugged and always toasty! Two boys are rugged most of the time but have been naked on dry days - it's nice for them to have a roll and a bit of sun.
