My yard is on a farm on an estate with a very active pheasant shoot, so at this time of year we're pretty used to trying to get the horses done to a volley of shotguns. Generally the horses cope pretty well, until pellets rain down on the barn roof, which happens quite a lot when a particular sydicate is around.
This is a small group of only 5/6 men who like to lurk in the woods just behind our barn and shoot duck and geese as they fly in to a nearby lake, and they don't care where they aim.

Well, today, along with the usual repeating shotguns, one of them had a machine gun :eek::eek:
Obviously these guys have firearms licenses, but I'm still fairly sure machine guns are not legal for civilians, especially when used on farmland that is criss-crossed by rights of way..

My landlord heard it and dialled 999, but the only response was a patrol car that wandered up the lane half an hour later and headed in the wrong direction!

Anyone know more about this sort of thing?

Oh it was a machine gun alright, I've spent a fair bit of time around military firing ranges to know what they sound like. This thing was seriously powerful.

So it looks like we're going to be dodging heavy artillary next shooting season.

As in 'big cars'.. 'big gun = wee willy (also known as Richard Head.) What absolute plonkers!

You got that right! These ones go round in a convoy of black Range Rover Sports with personalised plates, and when they come into the farmyard to turn around they hurtle in at speed and do handbrake turns. Never mind there's 20+ horses kept there plus farm dogs etc.

Wouldn't be much left of the bird!

I would go and speak to the Gamekeeper, and if they are driving around like @ssholes I would padlock the gates! I'm afraid I would lose my temper slightly.

According to my father (who is a RESPONSIBLE shooter (unlike what these pillocks sound like!!)) It is not illegal for a person to own a machine gun, if there is a special section in their firearms certificate specifically for one.

However, it is most definitely NOT legal to use it in such a situation!!!

Your local firearms officer should be able to confirm this.

It's now the end of the season, so at least things will quieten down a bit now!!!

Find yourself a machine gun and aim it at the ***** as they drive in the gate? get a speed trap like the police use and burst their tyres too?? :D
