it is -15 here just now, at 11am:eek: dont know what it went down to over night but for the first time our car wouldnt start properly this morning and kept stalling, hubby says the cold has done something to the diesel.

my 2 live out, with access to a stable, and they are standing in , or just outside it all the time. My circulation isnt great and i get reynaulds and chillblaines v easily. Im wrapping up with thermals and 2 sets of gloves. have just ordered snow-boots. Problem is, even our back door is freezing up and cant get the handle down:eek: water that im carrying out to the horses is freezing within hours:rolleyes:

my dogs (collies) are in internal kennels in a modern building but it isnt heated - we have fleeces on them and they can cuddle up together on vetbed up on raised benches and we've put in some old sleepingbags, but ive been out twice this morning with water already. they actually look very uncomfortable walking on the snow/ice as well at this temperature.

and the mucking out/poo picking. Is anyone else struggling? I just cant get it done as its frozen solid, ad with my 2 standing in the same place all the time its a mess:o

Sorry to hear you're struggling. It's the same for us all I'm afraid.

With regards to your dogs they are probably fine where they are living. It prob wouldn't do them any good to bring them indoors now as they will have grown suitable coats for living outside and would find it too hot indoors now.

As to the poo-picking, well if it's frozen to the ground you can't get it up - can you spread straw on top every few days or so and then just clear up the whole lot when it thaws?

I'm not poo picking at the moment. its frozen to the ground and at the moment covered in snow. it wont do any harm anyway, too cold to leach into the [frozen] ground and the worm eggs, if any wont be going anywhere. we just have to wait til it thaws then have a big clear up.

thanks, i know im not the only one - but its good to hear all the same.

we had a slight thaw about 10 days ago and did a mass clear up then- and ended up getting my arm xrayed as the repetitive work stirred up an old break and i was in agony. (still awaiting results). stoopid arm:o hence i really stress about it and had hoped to be able to do a little at a time.

I feel for you :( It was -14 here the other night, think it only -5 at the moment and its just started snowing again. I'm still struggling to soak hay at home and take it to the yard, everything seems to take twice as long. My mare is on shavings and I'm only taking out the poos and a little wet, will do it thoroughly when the weather gets better. I keep praying for warmer days, anything above 1 would be nice.

Yup, know what you mean - bleddy weather! :( - its getting water out to the yard is the main problem; I've got mine here at home - thank goodness coz haven't got to drive out in the snow, BUT there's two on DIY here as well and as the water butts are froze up its been a nightmare getting enough water out to them, and they're drinking like blimmin fish at the mo!

I'm not riding, haven't ridden for a week. The roads here are gritted coz we're on a bus route and it could be an awful lot worse, BUT I'm not inclined to do it as having walked the dogs up the road its like the Cresta run here.

Horse is fed up with it, is turned out just to get some exercise, but starts looking over the gate to be brought in just after midday, poor old chap.

Dogs are miserable as sin too; very crawley. At night they're wearing their Equafleece tankies (www.equafleece.co.uk) and so should be nice and cosy.

Apparently there might be a slight improvement as from Boxing Day???? Anyone else heard that?
