Are brown boots acceptable?

I want to treat myself to a pair of long boots. I personally love brown boots and I have always worn brown jod boots and chaps etc.

But although these new boots I plan to buy will be mostly used for my general riding, I dont want to spend alot of money on a brown pair if I then can't clean them up to be suitable to wear at (local level) showing or dressage (if we ever get that far!).

Secondly, Do I need to get dress boots or are field boots allowed?

My pony is a palomino and we have all brown tack. I have a lovely tweed jacket with navy piping so I thought brown boots would complement it perfectly?

I got told previously it was only acceptable if you were riding at a high standard or it could come across abit pretencious...
Well, I am certianly no high standard rider and I dont want to make myself look like I'm more than I am... so any advise??

Thank you!

i think showing is a different matter (I'm no expert, just from threads on here). but for dressage brown boots are absolutely fine, with or without laces - entirely your choice.

It depends what classes you are hoping to show in.....personally, at County level I wouldn't wear brown boots in the show ring but I have a show cob and they're very traditional in dress.
Definitely not in any class that you'd be expected to wear Navy in...Hack/Show Pony
Dressage you'd be OK.

I am old skool.
Black for navy jackets
Brown for tweed.

It makes me cringe seeing brown with navy but I am old skool as I admit - though part of me really wants some ridiculously funky boots for everyday. Just cannot justify £700 when chaps and boots are much more practical.

I event at novice in brown - but use black for FEI. Showing wise I always use brown as I think it looks better but admittedly have not shown at county level for years since doing workers in 2007. If I was more into dressage I would definitely get black patent boots.

We absolutely love brown riding boots in our house. My children do pony club and all shows in them, I do everything in mine too xx

I only have brown (field) boots, I don't like black ones. I don't show but do most other things and never had any issues.

I've just bought the Premier Equine boots in wide and they fit my short wide legs a treat, though I have put heel risers in whilst they drop.

I have black patent for dressage, and normal black boots for showing/ eventing/ jumping as generally I wear navy.

How adjustable would you say these are? I have quite a wide calf!
