Quietly waiting for winter ..... cash in hand
Quietly waiting for winter ..... cash in hand
We need an 'unlike' button !A lot of people have not used the various loans and schemes from central government to prop up their businesses. It has been spent on leisure and entertainment. A friend of my husband has a medium size successful kitchen fitting business. His government hand out bought a second hand Porsche and he is about to dump two members of staff when furlough ends.

That is disgraceful behaviour! I am horrified and very sad.A lot of people have not used the various loans and schemes from central government to prop up their businesses. OMGI would say not slowing down at all.
I just set off to try one, it was already what I would call over pried but, after the year I've had, I was going to treat myself. I am talking £12,500 for a 12 year old with excellent credentials for being a good boy, but not much in the way of checkable results. Just that he was a good looking and nice chap.
I set off for the 1.45 journey. I was feeling happy that I was going to treat myself, swearing that no one would ever know what I paid. As I left the motorway and pulled in to check the address, I found a message that had just been sent, saying that the horse was now £17,500!!!
Just WOW.
I have tuned round and come home. I think that is greedy and don't think they will get it.
I think I will sell mine soon, and leave it until January to buy.
As for today's debacle - ridiculous, and rude. Spent over 3 hours travelling and spent about £40 in fuel. They didn't even have the decency to call me, sent a message knowing I couldn't get it as I was driving.
Goodness only knows what to advertise mine for???

To be honest I say there is going to be a massive welfare problem . When everything gos back to normal a people are no longer working from home and they realize the time and money it takes to care for a horse.
I sell several horses alongside the day job, I had more phone calls in January and February this year for horses than ever before despite the winter being so wet. I think covid has increased the demand but it was busy before it kicked in. I advertised a cob mare last week and had over 80 enquiries. The demand is huge worldwide at the moment, I have sold two this week one to Italy and one to Norway, just nice riding types and nothing over 14.2 HH. The number of horses that have been sold out of Ireland is huge and at the moment demand is far exceeding supply, they may become cheaper in the winter if people cannot afford them but with the number that have left the country I still think they will be a shortage of horses....
That's very interesting to hear. Do you have any idea why that might be the case? Were people breeding less, say 4-8 years ago?
Yes, when the Irish economy collapsed several years ago most people stopped breeding horses. There is now ahuge shortage in Ireland although everyone is breeding again now. The cost of then has gone up dramatically. I remember a few years ago you could buy a nice Connemara for around 2500. I am now giving 5000 for 14.2 HH 4 year olds and still struggling to buy them at the quality I want.

I hope we don’t see a glut of horses on the market come winter. I don’t think we will see a mass return to the office - we are adopting a flexible approach to our return. If wfh works for you the wfh, if you need office time then go in (sensibly (so not every day)). I will continue to wfh for the foreseeable and am loving the flexibility and riding much more. If I didn’t already have 3 (two companions but they still need time) I might have looked for another.
