Are people buying horses at this time of year?

I'm going to be looking soon possibly in a couple of weeks but I wouldn't want to be I like to buy and sell beginning of summer but I'm being forced to buy now due to recent circumstances.

By the looks of it there are not a lot of horses around but the good ones really seem to be standing out and are whipped up pretty quick :)

echo what kokopelli says, there are some horses around and the good ones go quick. Like the one I was supposed to see Saturday but seller double booked me and now the other girl wants her even though I was first to ring up. So annoyed.

I advertised my youngster the other week and didn't even get a single call! Have since removed the add as we have decided not to sell, just can't let her go!!
My friend has a few for sale and not had a single call for months so I would say not a good market for sellers at the min!
x

I think the good, safe, reasonably priced all rounders are selling well. Everything else isn't having much luck at the moment.

The three year old spotty in my sig has been for sale on line for a couple of months, and I haven't had one call. She is due to be backed latr this month, but I'm wondering whether just to leave her in the field until the spring.

My friend has a couple of lovely horses for sale, really well bred, one backed and riding etc, and hasnt had one singe phone call, 16.2 already with a fab jump advertised at 2500, the other is an unbroken coloured filly which they just dont have the time to break but she is sooo laid back and lovely, they only advertised her for 1250 and have only had 1 call!!!!

2 horse sales this weekend ( I think dumfries and wigton) and one next weekend.
In October 2006 and 2007 and 2009 I bought a horse, and this year I bought a pointer Oct 2010. Hehe. (none of them as sales btw)
Horses are cheap at the this time of year :)

I've just sold one and bought another so it is possible. You would not believe the number of nutters and timewasters that I had ring up about Lily though. I think its an ideal time of year to buy, I've got all winter to bond with Gerry, get to know him and build a relationship and then we can get out competing BE in the spring. He was much cheaper than he would have been in the spring so another reason to buy.

Yes, the right horses at the right prices are selling very fast! I missed out of many potential/experienced BSJA horses 12-14yo at £2500-3000 as people were taking the day off work to see them before the weekend.

The market is terrible at the moment. It is a good time to get a bargain though (if you are quick enough!) as like Kokopelli said, the good ones are snapped up straight away.

Well im looking and not having any success! I have a reasonable budget but there seem to be a lot of ifs and buts about all the ones i ring about. Been to see a couple but not what i wanted.
I am gradually losing the will to live in horse hunting!

I am trying to sell an ex-racer atm, for not alot of money! Had alot of interest but, anyone that rings is either 'a riding school kid' or some noddy that is after something perfect! I have dropped the price because i want to find her the right home, but no-one that can actually ride has rang yet :(

There is a downturn in the market but I've been buying and selling horses for 30 years (just for me) and the same rules have always applied. Good horses (if they are for sale) are snapped up really quickly in fact most go by word of mouth. Anything else is a nightmare to sell. Buying horses is so easy (I brought one of internet unseen a couple of weeks ago) and sellling is so difficult, especially if like me you are 100% honest about all their foiballs (sp?). So yes some people are buying some horses!

Ive had a little chap up for sale for a month now. Will be a fantastic jumper/eventer in right hands. Stunning coloured, and ive had 2 peopl view him, both not ready for a 5yr old. So many people ring up, and then dont bother getting back. Think we might have to keep him until spring, not that im bothered tho

I'm STILL looking for a sensible allrounder.

I've got a sensible budget but can't find anything that is right and will also pass the vet!

I'm after a husband and wife share, about 16-17hh, decent middle weight type, must have the basics established and be sensible and vice free but doesn't have to be perfect and we are happy to school on. Would prefer a mare, and would prefer not to have to travel too far afield.

Have been looking for ages so feel free to PM me if any of you are thinking of selling something that fits that criteria, might save you the cost of advertising.

I think its all down to the horse and price tbh.... I`ve seen some ok horses advertised for way way over the odds and I`m like WTF!!!!

I know the prices in sales are dropping even more, my friend picked up a sec d filly with good breeding for less than £100

And a farm near me managed to find a pretty amazing experienced BSJA mare for less then £1k and she is one pretty impressive jumper!!!

I advertised my 4 year old a few months back and got a few phone calls, and one viewing. He's sj, dr, hunted, shown very successfully (HOYS Qualifiers) and is an angel in all ways. TBH 2 of the callers were keen but i didn't want him to go to a professional showing yard to be produced and the viewer didn't think she could take on a 4 year old, even though mine is a saint (why look at 4 year olds then?!) I had 2 people ask if he would go advanced eventing...hold on let me get my crystal ball a minute...and one person ask if i could guarantee that he wouldn't buck or get excited...he's 4!!!
I think there are horses out there that are selling, it just depends on the sellers circumstances to whether they sell or not. I'm in no hurry what so ever so will wait until i have a 110% perfect 'new mum' for my boy. If i can't find one (i'm not advertising him again) then i will be a busy bee next year with 3 to event! (secretly keeping him under wraps this winter so not many people see him out and about...don't tell the OH though!) :)

im struggling with my little one at the moment which is annoying as compared to the majority of the ponies for sale I think he's priced very reasonably! I just dont see what the problem is! I have had loads of people email me asking for piccies, videos, they say he looks exactly like what they are after, lovely etc, can they try him etc, then when i try and arrange a date they disappear never to be heard from again :( im happy to keep him a bit longer as hes a lot of fun but he was only ever meant to be a project to bring on and sell :(

im looking for a sane/ sensible 14.2-15.2 in Yorks area & have found a few to look at but a lot have gone when i contact.

Have you tried Stubley Hollow? There is always one or two I like on their website (my current fave is Benson) but they're a bit too pricey for me.

I've checked out the website a few times and they are a little pricey, most of them are also a bit on the small side for DH too.

Thanks for the recommendation though.

** just looked, they have a couple more large horses now but they are a bit over budget.
