My pet peeve is seeing people overhorsed (in terms of ability). Seen it a lot around here - they would rather pose on a TB who scares the living daylights out of them than admit they're crap riders and ride something more suited to their ability. Sad because they usually screw up a decent horse in the process.
I'm a pony/cob fan and rode a 14hh when I got back into riding. Rode out with people on stonking great horses and did everying they did - just got very muddy whenever we cantered as I always brought up the rear! I now have a connemara x and according to the post above about fashionable breeds I am now the coolest of the cool - if you follow your passion and do what you love you'll eventually come into fashion!
The most pathetic thing I ever heard was a kid telling me that a group of friends had leased a riding school pony to go to Pony Club Camp. When the little princesses with their own ponies found out these kids were on riding school ponies they were shunned. These kids spent all their free time as riding school helpers at an excellent schol and probably ended up better horsewomen in the long run.
