Are you rugging your horses now?

My two are rugged in rainsheets, one was fully clipped 31/08 as she gets sweaty (expecting a warm September) but it's so wet that I don't want them getting cold and stiff. IF they were younger they wouldn't have been rugged but at 21 and 23 they can have this one.
 
Mine were rugged in 0g turnouts for a few days of biblical rain, they've come off now. The new poly tunnel shelter is up, so they'll stay off now they have somewhere to get out of the rain. Last year they were out unrugged in the day and in at night (no field shelter) and both ended up with rain scald. I'm hoping this year won't be a repeat!
 
I have 3 little welsh A one is a bit dubious- welsh/shettie, he is naked and growing out a clip. The other two being 35+ and 32 are rugged. The younger of the 2 has a 50g combo and the older i play by ear as she gets really cold in wet or windy weather.
 
Mine depends on the day/night. Colder nights or days (I.e. lower single digits) he gets his 100g. Warmer but not super warm (I.e. higher single digits) he gets either his 50g turnout which unfortunately doesn't fit him particularly well anymore to go out or his fleecy rug if in stable. Warmer days and nights he's naked.
 
Low single digits when in - sheet if not clipped, 50g or 100g stable if clipped.

Low single digits when out - nothing if it's dry and he's not clipped, 40g t/o or more depending on the weather if he is clipped.
 
Mine are field kept with access to a shelter should they wish. I had put their lined no fills on, as it's been hammering it down here and the new shelter was too suspicious looking, but I've since taken them off as it was 18 degrees here yesterday and raining! They are both non ridden and hairy, so I figured they'd be better off naked and getting in the shelter if it's too wet for them
 
I've been rugging for a while now - for turnout a no-fill or 50g depending on weather and while stabled overnight a fleece rug. She's in her 20s and not clipped but feels the cold nowadays.
However, today, she is wearing a fly rug - it's mild and dry here.
 
I have a Welsh sec A. I don’t rug him unless it’s super wet and windy and below zero all day He comes in at night. It takes a lot to get to his skin with a winter coat x
 
Nope. Rugs back off again with this nice dry weather. Might pop a 100g on my older girl on Friday when the rain comes back and the temperature drops. The young cob might stay nudey for a bit longer. They both live out 24/7.

Fell pony with conservative Irish clip, and he's still warm as toast!

He has a No fill on if it rains heavily, not because he needs it, but because he gets ridiculously grumpy if he gets wet!
 
My oldie has been out naked the last few days, so he can enjoy a good roll before the weather turns. The tb has been out in fly mask and fly rug as he just can't stand flies!! There's not many... but still! Out the same again tomorrow then rugs on Friday as it's raining.

I've done the same with my oldie. They are making the most of the mild weather before the seemingly endless winter arrives. Mine doesn't do rain and runs for her stable at the first hint, so she's always got that option. Its still mid teens here during the day, so not remotely cold.
 
I've reduced my rugging substantially from my last comment. Robin and Ben are now unrugged and reg is in a 50g without a neck.
It's still warm and I figured Ben really doesn't need it and Robin could do with losing a few pounds so I'll rug him if I'm intending to ride but apart from that I'll leave him naked until I feel he needs it.
 
No. New forest not clipped age 6. Out during day in at night. He is a young native pony and designed to cope with the British climate.

Unfortunately it does mean he looks like this when he comes in quite often. This was yesterday. The rolling spot is now dry today and he had remained clean today.

I know all the horses surrounding me are in big full neck rugs day and night, no one seems to change rugs in the morning! and it has been 17 degrees daytime and not that much colder at night.

I clipped Louis last week his been in a sheet at most and Arabi is not clipped but not that hairy but only in a sheet at most a 50g with no neck.

I only rug rug because they would be caked in mud and I don't want to chip mud of them everyday.
 
I'm still not rugging (Cheshire based). I planned to this week but it's still really mild at the mo and dry 90% of the time. I'm thrilled to be going into November with naked ponies and dry fields 🙌
 
Senior PPID mare was definitely not too happy yesterday out rugless in her winter woolies in the full autumn sun. It was a lovely warm day, but older horses aren’t as good at thermal regulation, so it’s better to whip her coat off and rug as necessary.

ETA to clarify that she’s 23yo and was getting too warm, not too cold.

This much came off a sports horse type 😳. Hadn’t realised that her coat was that thick, I’d clipped her out in July. She’s already looking happier. Left legs and half head on.

Got rugs, necks and rug liners for all weathers to compensate, and at least she won’t cook if it’s mild.

ETA Feeling much happier after her clip, and a wet night out rugged with a neck. She doesn’t know how cr@ppy my clip was, it’s a lot more ragged than it looks in the pic 😳🤣.

I've been rugging Bobbi as she's 27 and although an unclipped fjord, she shivers if it rains and is cool. She's also not carrying extra weight so I have her in a rainsheet or 50g no neck. It was gorgeous today though so I left her nekkid! By the time I got back to the yard just as it was getting dark, she was in the field shelter, which is unusual. Although she felt lovely and warm, she'd clearly decided it was a bit chilly so I felt justified putting the 50g back on. The fat fell is staying unrugged!
 
So who’s rugging and playing rug roulette?? It’s that frustrating time of year where it’s cool at night but warm in the day…

I’ve had a zero fill when we’ve had heavy rain the last few days but otherwise waterproof fly rug or nothing. Welsh D living out at the moment!

Looking at the forecast the 50g might make an appearance in the next few weeks if it’s wet x
 
Mine have mostly been rugged at night in their lightweights unless there’s no wind or rain forecast which is rare even though the weather has been generally pretty good here. We are up off the north of Scotland.
 
No and I won’t until it gets below freezing or snows. It’s still 9-10 degrees here overnight (Midlands) and they’re both natives with plenty of shelter options.

Both just starting to grow a bit of winter fluff though.

Yes this sounds like my set up, starting to get a little hairy but not much yet!
