My horse really needs schooling at least 4 times a week to keep her attitude under control (

), but it's still boiling hot in the evenings.

A nice leisurely hack is one thing, but schooling under a baking sun seems just plain mean.

How are you managing?
 
Yep i'll be riding later, about 6.30pm, Blue has had a few weeks off and i have a competition in less than 2 weeks i need him ready for so kinda have to!
 
mine has sweet itch and really hates getting hot as makes her more itchy so no i dont ride when its like this (its nearing 30 degrees), although if i had one without a skin complaint i prob would ride.
 
it was still 22 degrees here last night at 10.30pm!!! i haven't ridden since last friday becasue of either thunder or heat.
Horse is happy in field, he'll be a pain when i do get on him next though!! Luckily we dont compete/nor does he need keeping fit as he has yearling to play with so not really going to harm him

I am just doing 20 mins with the pessola instead - enough to keep them ticking over but not too much - the ground is very hard to hack out at more than a walk, and the school is dusty and baking (indoor) this week.

After exercise they get a good 5 mins cold hosing which they really appreciate.

I came into work at 8.15 this morning - the temp according to one of those clock and temp readers on a building said it was 26 and when leaving the yard at 10.15 last night it was still 22 according to my car.

I have the sort that live out and are happy to have a week or so off with no change in their attitude.
 
Yeah its not that bad! give them a nice shower afterwards, and lots of short breaks while you work. And you could also clip it.
Mine have to get used to it as if we go competing and its hot they just have to deal with it and I'd prefer them to be used to it than not.
 
Rode on Sunday... in a back protector...I nearly died! I have never been so sweaty...

Only rode for about 20 mins and it was around 6pm so not exactly heat of the day, but still blooming hot. Made sure horse was well cooled off/sponged down afterwards and can't say horse seemed overly bothered. It was me that needed reviving

Blue is clipped, so not much fur, and if he gets too sweaty he has a 'shower' afterwards - i'm sure its me that suffers the most!

ETA Just thought i could always sit in my car for 5mins after with the air con on cold!

I have a lesson tonight so Pink Pony is going to have to do some work - thankfully RI is sitting on her too so hopefully I won't die due to working too hard in the heat...!
 
I'm having to ride to keep him fit for hunter trialing although trying to do it 6.30 - 7 am or about 9.30pm it's still hot but not as bad as mid-day and make sure i wash him off well. Has cooled down abit today though

I rode on Sunday, but haven't ridden since - it's just too hot! Mine are quite happy in the field and I am hoping it will cool down again in a few days!

I am doing road work in the evenings. . . still hot, but the flies are not as bad around the roads. All my hacking is in woodlands etc so the flies are awful. .

But am finding schooling a nightmare! Luckily he is due to be clipped soon, but last night it was 30 degrees at about half six :O

He doesnt seem bothered though as long as he gets a bath

Yep my horses have to compete in the heat so they work at home in the heat i just give them a few more breathers and they have a good wash down when they're done, i think they cope better than i do
 
Yep, still riding! Horse is still only mostly hacking anyway since having his hocks done so it's not like he's being asked to jump or school hard. Schooled last night for about 35-40 mins, mostly in walk with short bursts of trot and canter. Just using it as an excuse to do lots of lateral work and transistions, rather than things that make him out of puff and knackered in this heat.
 
Im riding early mornings, no flies!!! yeh!!!
but it is pretty scary going through the woods that early as NO ONE is about!! mind you Im a scaredy cat!!

i ride every day at 6am for half an hour and then after school from about 7 until 9. As long as I take it easy in the evening (ie when schooling i have frequent rests where i just walk around the school) they manage fine. the flies are a real pain though.

i do have to keep the horses uber fit though!
 
I'm riding at about 8am each morning. Murphy gets absolutely terrorized by horseflies if I take him out once it starts warming up, so I am having to drag my a** out of bed a bit earlier!
 
Not muggy here, just hot. I've just got in from about half an hour's schooling and tbh it was cooler up at the field than it is here. I'm now sitting dripping sweat on to my desk. Horse's energy levels didn't seem to be affected by the heat

Would have gone for a hack but the irrigators were spraying the road - two of them - and there was no way that Flynn was going through quietly. As there was a car stopped photographing the "rainbows" I decided that a series of photos of us dancing in the rain was undesirable and went back to school in the field. Big mare went through under protest - I'm just a wimp.
