Elf On A Shelf
...
I have recently been told that some of my ponies are wasted with me and that I should seriously consider selling them to people who would make use of them.
Now for the record I would never sell any of them unless I had to so I am more asking if you think your horse is wasted in what you do with it?
2 of the ponies I have been told to consider selling are a 5yo broodmare who has a foal every few years so we are not over run with ponies. She has never been backed and being only 39ins there isn't much point. She gets shown every so often as she is chestnut and not all judges do 'coloured ponies'. When she is shown she does well. I have been told to sell her to someone who will take a foal every year and show her every weekend. The other one is a 2yo filly who, at the moment, is a companion to retired racehorses and goes to the odd show. Why is she wasted doing that? It's not as if she can do anything else but munch grass at the moment!
The other one is one of my ridden ponies. He is a fab ridden pony with someone who can ride, with kids he is a lazy toad who does as little as possible. I got told by the mother of the kids that ride him that she should have him as she would take him to shows every week, her kids would ride him at least 5 times a week and he wouldn't just be standing around in a field. Now they have 5 ponies of their own and I just can't seem to get rid of them! As much as he loves showing he doesn't want to be out every weekend and at pony club every other day. I ride him myself 3 or 4 times a week to keep him ticking over.
If your horse is doing what you want it to do are you really wasting it? Yes it may progress further up the competition rankings with someone else but I am sure that they are just as happy to plod around the countryside, munching grass and being horses than getting traipsed up and down the country in a box and expected to perform every few days. In fact I am sure that they would be happy never to be ridden again so long as they had grass to eat!
Kind of a pointless post really but it's bugging me that people think my beasties are being wasted.
