Hey all,

At Area 1 Team dressage today - only second dressage outing for the Pads and I so mega stressed!
Got there in plenty of time, walked him about the lorry park and around the side of the outdoor arenas to get him used to the surroundings and then into the indoor school for warm up.

Started the warmup in the routine that seems to be working with ten mins in walk doing circles, loopes, 8's etc and he seemed quite happy, couple of transitions then up into trot, lots of work into trot and it was about 15mins until my time and the steward asked if I was ready to go in as a couple of people had withdrawn adn I said no and she said do you not think you have warmed up enough!!

Eh, I think I'll be the judge of that thanks! Anyway said no and carried on, couple of canters and felt quite happy.

Anyway, off out to the arena, his eyes were on stalks head high and off I wandered around the arena, couple of circles in trot and the bell went off we went down the centre line, he became fairly settled (for 2nd time dressage) I felt happy with our trit to start which showed with a couple of 6's and a 7 from the judge - medium trot didn't really hapen as I had expected so got a 5 with 'hurried rather than lengthened' and then came canter .... as I knew it would be it was harrassed and hurried, so the 4's came, right canter ented with a nice showjump over the M marker and 'rather uncontrolled adn on the forehand'

but hey we knew the canter was our weakness and it's what we're working n so no surprises there but finished with a lovely square halt and steady head.

I was DELIGHTED with him, what a mass improement from our first outing. Far far far calmer and organised and we both felt quite in tune with what was supposed to be happening. Judge was a BE and BD judge and I was looking forward to seeing what she said - I got 55% which may not seem good but it was good enough to be 3rd as I left and our team ended out 3rd overall!!!!! I was delighted, very very pleased, onwards and upwards for BE next year!

Hello mum, are we here yet?

Oh well done!! I was looking out for you, but couldn't see you. My OH was on after the break in your section.

Alfie and I had a horrendous day. He was in a foul mood when he came out of the lorry (that car park was like playing sardines - we had no space to tie up any of ours). He warmed up really nicely, but I could start to feel him backing off just before we went in and I was waiting for the fireworks to start.

Then the literally did!!! Local yoofs letting off fireworks at 2pm on a Sunday afternoon.

Anyway, Alfs freaked out in the arena, just about died when the judge blew her horn (as we passed her) and then proceeded to attempt the entire test in canter. First half was awful, then he settled a bit and pulled some of it back, only to be freaked out again when someone leaning on the fence beside us shrieked when her friend fell over on the mounting block. Not impressed!

Judge was fair with comments (I'm not telling my score, it was sub 60!), but hit the nail on the head when she said he was 'obviously a very talented horse, but full of attitude'. Spot on!

Fortunately the rest of the team did well and we were 5th out of the 22 teams. Long day (on the go since 5 am) made even longer when our lorry wouldn't start so we didn't get home til 9pm.

Can't say I'm looking forward to BD next weekend!
