got to yard tonight to find that the arena has been padlocked and a note saying that its because people keep leaving poo in there despite repeated warnings - is shut til further notice. everyone was wingeing but i wasn't that bothered- i'm slightly annoyed that i've been punished when i've done nothing wrong but by the same token what else can YM do to get people to listen? she's lovely and not being nasty or vindictive or anything

I can understand YO's point of view, but I would be really annoyed (putting it mildly) if the arena at ours was padlocked especially when the nights are now getting darker.

I've heard of a similar thing happening on a yard down the road from me apparently the YO locked it when she went on holiday :S

ditto what flame has said above, ask for your rent to be reduced while you cant use the facilities. hope you get it sorted

Exact same thing happened on a yard I was at.

Was annoyed as it was never me who left droppings in there, YO said it would not be opened until the culprits owned up!!

Went on for about 3 weeks until YO backed down, funnily enough there was never poo left in there again!

Still does not help your situation though Diggerbez.....

YO at my previous place did it too - I normally got so annoyed, I cleared up, even though mine never poo in the arena. I can understand it, but I don't think it's on. Hope you get it sorted soon.

If people misuse the arena by repeatedly leaving poo or such like then I think it's fine for YO to lock it to teach those who do it a lesson if a bit unfair on those who clean up after themselves.
Our YO has locked the arena for this reason and because people insisted in riding in it when it was under water or a foot of snow.

i would have no hesitation AT ALL in doing the same and this is why!!
Im about to shut a tap off that i put in for liveries as someone seems to find it amusing lately to fill the drain full of rank feed out of feed buckets. if i have to have the drain excavated because of this, it will cos me uwards of £800 so i can see exactly where your YO is coming from!
peer pressure can make a remarkable difference to one bad apple

to be honest i can totally understand why YO has done it- i even told her this when i saw her this evening. the yard is lovely and the arena is lovely. it could do with a rubber top up and she's looking into it but i can totally understand why she gets annoyed that some people can't keep the yard nice- its them i'm annoyed with more than her....

We used to have this problem

- livery has moved on now

- but luckily growly shouty notes in the feed room did the trick - mainly becasue it was always the same person.....

I would totally understand if YO got to this point as some people are just inconsiderate and being blunt and 'in your face' are the only things they understand sadly.

I see nothing wrong with this. It's not fair on those who never leave poo there, but life is unfair. Hopefully, in a few weeks, it will be opened again and everyone will have learnt their lesson.

we get charged between the liveries if people dont poo pick the school £3 extra to the bill a month even though it takes staff two minutes but there are some really lazy liveries at the yard i work there so i help add up the bills and put a huge note at the bottom of the bill saying £3 added for poo picking all three schools!!!!!!! lol i get really frustrated as my boy lives in im the one who keeps the muck heap tidy as a messy muck heap looks disgusting and with being staff i also end up being the one poo picking

just get a yard meeting and talk to people about it we're holding one soon as its ending up being every month that it happens and we're going to make a poo picking rota as we only really need to do it once a week maybe twice

but surely its not hard to just pick your own poo when you have done? we have a bucket and fork right net o the school gate so it takes 2 minutes max....

It's the typical livery mentality.

Poo blocks the membrane eventually and makes the surface dirty and smelly in the short term. But no matter, they haven't shelled out ten or so thousand on having it put down. I'd go ape if anyone rode it in and I normally get off and pick it up unless it's all in a heap out of the way.

Where is the YO when people are riding? If they are around, which they sometimes ought to be, they should know who habitually ignore rules and give them and only them warnings then chuck them off. They really should not be denying everyone the facilities they're paying for.

its being done late at night when they have gone home...i often ride quite late but i know its not me...yard is open til 9pm so can't expect YO to be there all of the time....if i went in and there was muck in there already i would move it when i have finished but if the culprit(s) is going in last then nobody has chance to clear up after them..... i think possibly that our contracts might have something about this in them to be fair to the YO.....

We had an issue with people not poo picking the school at my old yard and, along with the dog poo left everywhere (including in the school!), it was one of the main reasons I left. I'd love to have been able to lock up the school to teach people a lesson, so good on your YO.

Not clearing up after you use the school is not nice for the other people using it and not fair on the YO who has paid for the surface - see Brighteyes, some of us liveries do know how to respect our YOs property

well schools cost a lot to build. you could do a booking system and collect the key? if you know who the pooh belongs to you could make a large flag and stick it in the pooh and put a notice in yard! a name and shame? then YO can bill the individual? but as a YO the liveries do abuse the facilities and dont feel the need to clear/sweep up after themselves! sometimes the liveries push their luck TOO far!

I actually think our old yard used to do the name and shame thing didnt they Diggerbez?? and then they were billed accordingly *for clean up*....might be something to put to your new yard seems a shame everbody has to suffer because of a few lazy asses on there...I was always a lucky owner who's horses never pooed in there

I would be livid. Yes, of course its out of order to leave the school in a state but as someone who really isn't a happy hacker, I wouldn't stay at a yard with no school to use. I don't think locking the arena is really the right solution - the person responsible needs to be found and penalised, not the whole yard.

Typical YO Modern day, attitude, punish "everyone" instead of tackling the individual/s directly concerned. Severn Trent tried this crap with my missis, bollocked whole dept instead of tackling the couple of individuals, "company policy", no backbone by the manager (fumbler) more like, she went in and tackled them about being told off for someone elses slacking, didn't go down well, countries full of wankers not managers.
