Sorry to open an old thread, I’ve just got a couple of swish fly rugs and love them, but how do you wash them? In the machine? Obviously not the waterproof one…

The nylon is fab but wasn’t sure how to wash and can’t see anything on the website x
Use Nikwax Rugwash. Wash at 40 degrees the non waterproof, and 30 degrees the waterproof one. Any stubborn stains you can treat with neat rugwash and then wash again. I would give them extra rinses because modern domestic machines are rubbish at rinsing as they don't use enough water.

I also chuck my nylon rugs in the wash all the time and my waterproof one only when needed. I use something like this for the waterproof one, that mentions that it's ok to be used on waterproof rugs and is a bit cheaper than nikiwax.

I just stick mine in the wash, even my one with the waterproof section! I do the waterproof one on a cooler wash with no detergent, also only wash it occasionally. The other one gets bunged in the machine all the time as I hate stuff being mucky!
What do you do about the metal bits on the rug which might damage the washing machine?

I used this, Seemed pretty good. Didn't get things as clean as proper detergent so i used regular stuff for anything not waterproof still.

I use one of these washbags for things with metal on, they also stop too much from going down the drain but things don't wash quite as well in them as without but I still feel they're worth it.

I bought a washing machine just for horse stuff. Mr P used to moan about hair and metal bits clanging round and that it was going to trash the machines.
I’ve had it 10 years now and it’s in constant use. I wash absolutely everything from all rugs to grooming kits, boots, if it fits in it gets washed, if it doesn’t really fit in it gets rammed in.
It’s outlived the house hold one we bought at the same time.
We do need to keep on top of emptying the filter that’s all.
I think it just sounds bad so people assume it’s going to wreck it.
