I really dont get why people let there randy, disobedient dogs off the lead in a public park!!! It really bloody annoys me something shocking Got 5 minutes round the park with the mutt and then this flaming dog starts following us and trying to jump my dog (putting it politely) not a happy bunny ... and no owner anywere to be seen!! So i had to carry my rather large dog up to the office to hand the stray dog in as it had a tag etc but according to a nice woman there was a man in the park looking for his dog!! Lets just say the only thing that dog was interested in was my ginger mutt!! And this isnt the first time this particular dog has "stalked" us but the owner was there to retrieve it. Really does annoy me!! ... My dog even got bit in that park when some stupid woman had her dog off the lead, then a week later the same dog was off the lead again I dont have a problem with dogs off the lead just disobedient ones!! Mines on a lead as she is not trustworthy with some dogs and if someone talks to her she will bark and jump on them.

Some people can't see what's in front of their face and think their dogs are perfect and they as owners have nothing to learn.
Mine aren't, they're sharp, so they stay on a lead in public and agree, wish other people would take more notice of that fact!!!

Iv lost count of how many times my dog has been launched at by crazy loons off the lead!! A Lab once pounced on her and chased her round me in circles whilst she was still on the lead, luckly she was wearing a coat so all the dog got was a mouthful of coat and not my dog!! ... On the plus side i could have had some Irish terrier x Beagle pups ... hmmm wonder what they would look like haha

Don't get me started. Do they think the fact that my dog is on a lead and I have intentianally avoided walking near you means I don't want their dog to say hello to mine! Oh no they are going to let their dog bounce up to mine now mine is growliing and hiding behind my leg are they going to recall...no. Now I am removing my dog from the area while she is barking at their dog who is still jumping on her will they do anything...oh their recalling him well done they've got him......Oh oh no he's back ambushing me.

I'm 5 foot I have a small cocker spaniel when your massive boxer (not boxers in general just this one) bounces up to us we don't like it, infact if any dog that I didn't know bounced up to me I would not like it. Just thinking how easly and very nearly did I nearly get knocked over by it. What if my son was (in a couple of years) walking next to me with this loose boxer flying round.

So agree!!! Last week I was walking round the field with my two,older dog still with me but mine were both off lead. There was someone right the other side of the field so wasnt to bothered; if they come towards me etc then my dogs go on lead but they were soooo far away so wasnt bothered. anyway the person disappeared far away, 5 mins later their boxer comes charging up, i know its a girl and have met it before so i left my 2 off as it usually says hi then runs off. but today she wouldnt leave i carried on as they were all playing.... turned round and my older dog is humping her (he is castrated though!) but she was full on in season, gagging for it bless her!! who lets their in season dog off lead?!!?! Have to admit though, I did leave my dog too it he looked so happy and to be fair i wanted the owners to see a collie/husky big fluffy thing humping their precious pedigree boxer maybe teach them a lesson!!! Defo no puppies though as castrated! and bless the puppy stodd there like

I'm going to be really honest here, I have been that offender who owns the manic dog on occasion. I almost always get Loki on his lead before we meet another dog but have once or twice bumped into people in one of the woodland paths and not had the chance. At which point New Doggy Friend + Freedom = Loki Brain Overload.

In our defence he is only just 6 months old, and although he's quite polite in introducing himself it quickly dissolves into 'omgomgthisdoglikesmeomgomgletsplayletsplaynooooooow!!!11!!1!'. Que one suddenly hyper-excited puppy barking, bouncing, growling and running in circles. Unfortunately a lot of people see an enourmous, aggressive German Shepherd about to eat their expensive designer cockapoochipugle.

I don't mind so much being accosted by friendly dogs, but purely for selfish reasons, as Loki likes the whole meet-and-greet. It helps that they go away after a few minutes too... (I only have so much patience after all ). But then my view might be skewed as in the past months I've been working quite a bit on socialising said puppy, and it's always a little disheartening to ask a complete stranger if I can introduce our dogs for said reason and be told 'no my dog's timid/snappy' time after time after time. I sometimes wonder how much of it is the dog and how much is the owner's own paranoia, if that makes sense? Surely 90% of dogs in my area can't be aggressive for no real reason?! And then I wonder if it's just us.... I have had people pick their dogs up and scramble down a fairly deep incline to avoid us, and that's with Loki on his lead

Erm, I'm not entirely sure what all that rambling was for. I think you just got me thinking sorry! I shall get back on track! I personally really, really am fed up with small dogs, particularly terriers and cockapoochipuglemutes, appearing from nowhere and latching themselves onto my damn dog (with added snarling and attempts to shred skin for dramatic effect) when he's on his lead, minding his own business, sniffing some other dog's fascinating wee. There is some sort of small-but-deadly-dogs factory around here I'm sure. If you know it's a snappy little rat keep it on it's lead!

A cockapoochipuglemute haha i like this breed, can i have one just so i can say i have a cockapoohoochymachoochy ... I dont mind dogs coming and saying hello its just when the owners are nowhere to be seen and the damn dog wont go away then trys to jump my poo woofers or trys to eat her!! Shes fine with quiet dogs but as soon as one comes bounding up barking and getting one she turns into a barking, growling mess and shes not a small terrier lol shes a border collie sized terrier She also hates people stopping and talking to me so barks and growls alot and then the people are like can i strolk the dog and im thinking are you crazy you want to strolk a barking growling mess!!!! Don't worry if your there trying to get your dog back at least i don't have so much of an issue. Other than of your recall is not good with distractions he should still be on a long line.

I'm the same. My Danny is walked on a lead AND muzzled but do other people take notice of that fact? Nooooo, that would be far too easy.

Danny's not aggressive with dogs, it's the opposite. If a loose dog runs up to him all happy and bouncy and it winds the stupid idiot up so he starts bouncing and playbowing and barking on the end of the lead. But he's very boistrous and most dogs that run up to him are small. Namely the chihuahua and puggle that have no recall AT ALL. Thing is, the park isn't a dog park and dogs are meant to be on a lead at all times. 90% of the time the dogs in my local park (which just happens to be right outside my back gate) are off lead so their owners can play dumb if their dog fouls - if they are on the lead it's incredably hard to ignore the fact your dog has just dumped a load on the football pitch.

I've stopped walking in the evening now as it seems the number of dogs (including ones I have never seen before) is increasing - if I do go out the route I take is rediculous as I try to avoid all the stupid people. I don't know if it's ignorance or they are doing it on purpose. If I am avoiding your dog while mine is muzzled on a lead, there is a reason.

This is possibly one of the greatest made up breed names ever. I salute you. It fully represents a teacup-handbag-giant-dog who is long-curly-mole-silky coated complete with heavy undercoat. Able to withstand both a day in a harness pulling a sled through sub-zero conditions and a day in a hand bag browsing the wares at Harrods. Can be fed either on a raw diet (shop assistants' fingers) or a diet of pure guacamole and NOTHING ELSE.

Back on topic, I completely agree with the owners who are always absent from the scene of the crime. Honestly, at least make an effort to know where your dog is/try to get it back. Don't just blush and hide behind a tree hoping nobody will realise the crazed dog is yours.

It was great until a week or two ago, he suddenly decided that actually, he is a big damn hero and can do all kinds of things by himself. Needless to say there is already a long line on it's way and many fun, fun weeks/months of back to basics with recall and recall with distractions.

See with GSDs I tend to err on the side of caution, it's not just our own dogs to consider, it's the reputation of the breed as a whole and no one (well, maybe me ) wants to see a GSD, friendly as their owners think them, charging up to them unbidden and it just adds fuel to the fire that they are big uncontrollable monsters.
Like KLH says unless recall is very good I would stick to the long line when you are in an area where you are likely to bump into lots of people.

I do understand what you mean, and to be clear he is generally on lead when we're in dog walking areas. If it's a particularly quiet spot I let him off lead and when others come along I tend to notice first and have him back on the lead. I have been taken by suprise a couple of times, but this was a little while back when he still rushed back to his mum. The recent problem actually stems from people who are quite frankly trespassing. I live on a private, members only, golf course and have the right to walk my dog on it when the golfers are cleared off. Unfortunately there is also a small right of way across a small section which people take to mean 'here is miles of expensively kept grass, please walk your dogs on it as you choose, and furthermore, if you possibly could, have them defecate somewhere really obvious so that Pix's dog gets the blame'.

Now with 120ish acres of should-be-private land, that's generally well fenced, I tend to let Loki run as he pleases. Particularly as he never goes too far. Imagine my displeasure when I turn a corner and find somebody where nobody should be

Anyway, trespassing aside, his very recent 'dogs are more interesting than you, so stuff it' attitude does need addressing. Hence long line in the post Although I still reserve the right to mutter dark things about people who have something against my particular breed of dog, despite the fact that he is still a puppy. One such muttering being 'get a grip, do I cry when your staffy/mastiff/wolverine says hello? No.' Then I go home and mutter more. I'm a whole bitter, twisted, mutter-fest at the moment

ETS - He isn't doing too badly for a breed ambassador! We have quite a few members here that previously were cautious of Alsaaations, but since watching him grow up have been turned around Also quite a few who have had GSD's themselves and are happy to see one about the place

Oddly enough it was something my mum told me would ward off creepy blokes in bars etc.... as in, 'tell them you like raw fish! Then watch them run, my child'.

And it has worked well throughout the years!

A preference for toes as opposed to fingers is certainly NOT in the breed standard, and may be harder to accomodate. However, Cockapoohoochymachoochy is a difficult breed and well known for utterly adorable character flaws. I suggest you try the frozen Tesco section. The vast majority of frozen meat is in fact human toe, and your little ray of sunshine will thrive on such a diet.
