Hi all,

was a Burghley this last weekend on the hunt for a new pair of everyday boots (have to be brown!) and settled on the Ariat Bromont tall in chocolate.

Had them fitted and remarked that they seemed to come up tall, but the sales person said that they drop and soften off - she said they were the right fit for me (size 6, regular calf and I'm not partic. short in the leg).

Anyway, got them home and first ride out, they have skinned the crease/inside of my knee. Have worn them a few more times and seem to be getting a bit better, but when I go up steps etc, they do limit my movement and are still rubbing my knee, so it's not healing. I'm not a wuss (!), so will persevere, but just wondering how much they will drop/soften off in peoples' experience, as I would prefer not to have a perpetual scab where my knee bends!

Bit annoyed that the sales person said they were the correct fit......but love them in every other way so hoping they come good?

Cookies to all :)

Yeah they will drop - try not doing the stud up as it thickens that area at the back of your knee until you are more comfy in them - ps I LOVE mine

Mine did the same when I got them, they did drop eventually but a little too much and just looked baggy, they also rubbed my ankles where they creased when they fell. It took a good 2 weeks of daily wear before they dropped.

They do drop quite a bit, till they started to drop i just left the button at the top undone, and didn't do the zip right up to the top. After a few weeks they were fine, to do up properly

Mine have dropped a bit - would rather they didn't though as they are just the right length 'not dropped'!! A wipe of neatsfoot oil around the ankle and around the back of the knee of the boots should help them soften if you are finding the breaking in rather painfull?

Phew - thanks all, that's a relief as I was starting to wonder if I had apent a lot of money on a pair of *rather* uncomfortable boots!

I did leave the stud open and zip down a bit yesterday, but felt it was cheating (ha!) so did it up today and took the pain! Will be more sensible tomorrow!

Must say, the feel through the leg and the foot is fab - my leg feels really secure :)

I have just got a pair of these so was really pleased to see this thread as I too had the same question! Also (and I'm aware I'm probably being as thick as the proverbial here....) what's with the lacing? I thought the laces should be adjustable? I don't want to dig around to see if I can find the ends of the laces just in case they are not supposed to be pulled out! Any ideas?

Im having the same problem!! Thank god its not just me..... :)

I am so short in the leg i was really worried, they havnt dropped yet either so my behind the knee area is just skinless atm :o

I put heel raisers in mine till they dropped. In fact I still use the heel raisers! :o

Don't think mine have dropped too much and haven't gone baggy round the ankles either. Love the boots and want to same pair in brown now! :D

Mine haven't dropped yet - still riding with the zips down!

Might have to invest in heel risers......starting to feel a little deficient in terms of (leg) length!! Now I know how some blokes feel! We used to have a site manager who thought he was out of the wild west (on a business research site, not a yard or anything) - he was a little on the short side and used to strut around with risers in his cowboy boots - so funny....starting to feel like him!

Surely my lower legs aren't that short - I'm 5'8'' and never had such trouble before!

On plus side, my scabs have nearly gone.......

Ariat now produce heal risers to sort out this problem - they should be free from wherever you got the boots from or you could try contacting them direct and asking for a pair.

Several of my friends have these boots but for them they haven't dropped by more than 1cm or so.

Yes, they do drop, as long as they aren't a really tight fit. Ariat sent me some heel risers foc when I rang them to ask the same question, they were a big help.
