I have arthritis and osteochondritis dissecans (sp?) In my right knee.
I also have a problem with my right ankle which the doctor, physio, specialist doesn't know what it is. They think the ligaments are not in the right place blah blah blah.

I have suffered with pain in my knee and ankle when riding for 2 years but didn't bother going to the doctors until about a year ago when I found out thats what I had.

Problem is it's getting worse not better, how do you cope if you have arthritis? My knee feels like it's burning when I ride.

I have been given pain killers etc which make no difference.

It's really getting to me to the point where its to painful to ride, I have danced sinse the age of 3 and have had to stop because my knee couldn't cope with dancing and riding. It's so annoying I'm only 18!

Any thought would be great :)

I have similar issues - major riding accident 6ish years ago has now left me with osteo-arthritis in right knee, and issues in the left too! Major ligament damage at the time! (How I hate crutches now!!) Getting off after a while in the saddle used to involve me sliding to the floor in a heap!! Find yourself a really good physio - mine recommended a fair few exercises to strength up various muscles etc so my knee moves a bit straighter - I also take max strength glucosamine and condrotin which I find helps a lot. What I find also helps is every now and then take your feet out the stirrups and stretch the leg down a little, so a bit of no stirrup work!

Don't give up riding! Although it's not cure-able as such you can manage it and keep enjoying riding horses!

Thank you! The only good thing out of it is I think my seat has improved from all the no stirrup work I do lol!
I have recentley moved house so going to see a different physio and see what they say, somebody else mentioned asking to see a rhumatologist so I will see what comes from that too :)

I'm really bad with tablets and have struggled taking them, as pathetic as it sounds I can't swallow them! I feel like I am going to choke, until the arthritis I had never took a tablet! And I only started taking them when it started affecting my riding.

Do you think it is the flexion of your knee that hurts - maybe a different style of saddle, with longer leathers might help with the pain ?
