Aubiose bedding - thoughts and opinions please?

Hi, I am thinking of putting my boy on aubiose next Winter. (I can get it for nothing in my livery deal!). Horse is a nightmare on straw - walks his poo into the banks and makes a real mess. How good is Aubiose with a horse like this? Can you deep litter/semi deep litter it etc. Thought about wood pellets but used them on another "filthy" horse and didnt really feel they gave a nice thick bed. Anyone used Aubiose - opinions please - good or bad! Thanks
 
I use Hemcore which is the same only made in Britain not France. I have rubberr mats and it is absolutely fabulous. I just skip out two/three days then take the wet out on the third or fourth day. It is highly absorbant (unlike shavings) and very easy to muck out.
 
Lucky you, getting it with your livery. I love it - I think it works best for deep littering. I get shavings in my livery but would use Aubiose otherwise. I find it nicer than shavings to deep litter, and it doesn't seem to smell much either. I find I take less bedding out when I skip out as well, cos it doesn't seem to stick to the droppings. Added bonus is that it doesn't stick to rugs/horse either when they lie down

Ditto everyone above. I wouldn't use anything else. Works best laid deep, just skip out. Takes 5 minutes a day, who wouldn't use it?
 
Depends on the quality of the shavings! The ones we get aren't great anyway. I found Aubiose to be pretty much dust-free.

Thanks for that, we only use Hunter shavings and they are pretty good as shavings go. Might try the Aubiose, is it cost effective? don't know the cost of it. Savings are about £9.00 per bale.
 
Yeah, I would say it was more economical. We have smaller bales of shavings that are about 2/3 of a normal bale and in the winter I add one a week to a deep litter bed. With the Aubiose, I was putting in one every fortnight or so - if that. I am considering asking not to have shavings this year so I can swap over completely. I was paying £10.50 for bales of Aubiose last Autumn.
 
Ta, just rung our local suppliers and Aubiose is £9.50 a bale at the mo, so might try mixing with the shavings to start with, sounds good.
 
Thanks, haven't heard of anyone local using hemcore, but will ask supplier for costs, am assuming it is also pretty good dustfree?
 
When you first lay an Aubiose bed you might well think it's not dust free, as spreading half a dozen bales does send up clouds of dust. But once in use you won't notice any dust. It doesn't stick to everything like shavings either.
 
I had to use shavings at livery yard for years, have a 17 hand heavy hunter who used to make such a horrid mess. When we moved to our own place, I put him on Aubiose. What a change. Sooo much better. It doesnt get walked round the stables so the wet stays where it was weed, the poops dont get kicked round, he lies down a lot more, his puffy hocks are much better as a result. It costs me the same or less cos I use less, its way less dusty and it looks a lot cleaner. It takes about half the time to muck out. And it doesnt stick to rugs.

Use hemcore or aubiose, either are fine, but I bet you wont look back. If dust isnt critical then you could do what I do with my pony and mix aubiose and wood pellets (the same ones you put in wood pellet central heating boilers); that gets the cost down even more and they work well together....
