Anyone watching?? (I know most people are at work - I'm at home with my baby!) - a woman is rehoming her 5yo TB mare as she can't ride her due to her own back injury.

Feel very sorry for the horse - she looks like shes crying out in pain (bucking, not wanting to go forward etc) - makes me sad to see things like this. How much more obvious do horses need to be to show that something isn't right? Or is it just me thinking this??

I just watched this. I was slightly surprised but the choice in the end, and the lady that said she never rides the first time she meets a horse, that's why she's only come off once! The first lady rode really nicely. Guinea pigs next week, surely they can't make that last an hour!

I watched it too. I personally would have chosen the first 'candidate'. Much nicer rider than the one who took the mare away. Her hands were terrible and no wonder the mare didn't go forwards.
I think the mare is in for a rude awakening too as didn't seem keen to work, whether through laziness or discomfort remains to be seen.
Will defo be watching update on Friday.

Shall watch Friday too. Dont think horse was in pain. Just spoilt. And throwing toys out of plan. The new loaner didn't drive the horse forward, with leg on, instead just sat there and shortened the reins. Perfect opportunity for horse to go up. Not easy to school a green 5 yr old TB. Would have gone with no.1 too. Doesn't matter no schooling ring. She can section some land off. And clear ly thought a lot of her horses as she still had Jaz who was elderly and retired. No 2 found a home for her anglo Arab pretty quickly? ?? No.3 was obviously **** scared to ride.

Glad it wasn't just me that watched this slightly aghast.
I feel sorry for the woman who's getting rid of the horse, but I would have chosen the first lady too. The second, as already said, although patient, didn't look the best rider, and had rotten hands.
Horse looked unwilling and uncomfortable, although we have a rising 5 y.o on our yard that goes similarly under saddle due to not having a regular rider and a small dash of attitude. She's had EVERYTHING under the sun checked, so I will reserve judgement on the one on the telly.
The third lady seemed very nice, but I got the impression she was scared to get on.
I have set it to record on Friday. I know what I *think* will be the outcome...

ETA. I felt a bit sad for lady two's other horse aswell, being passed on like that..and sharpish.
Also, whatever did we do without schools? Based on that, she could have loaned her to me. I have one. Do I ever use it? Not really!

Yes I'm waiting for the update on Friday too! I thought the first rider was so much nicer and her house/stables were gorgeous. I wasn't keen on the lady who she went with. I just thought the mare was sweet and watching her being ridden made me feel uncomfortable.

i watched this with a friend, we thought number 2 was a bit awful too, awful hands and would definitely have gone with lady number 1. also as someone who has applied for a horse on horses for homes and is meant to be viewing him this week, the tv programme was all very staged and i can say for sure that the reality of rehoming through the site is nothing like blind date - cilla, i'll pick number one!

Also watched it and also hated how number 2 rode. Did you see how short she had the reins ? Poor mare! I'd have chosen the first candidate too.
The owner seemed to identify with the woman which is why she chose her.

i watched as well and am with the majority wouldhave picked no 1...she seemed a much better and more sympathetic rider and had a lovely place.....i didnt take to either of the others and also felt the 2nd one was a poor rider and the 3rd a bit odd...

Another one who would have chosen 1. How could you discount someone who got the mare going quite nicely because she didn't have a school. She could have just booked a school to used locally. Number 3 I don't think she was entirely silly to be honest, she obviously wasnt confident getting on a horse who throws in a few bucks at least she didn't just hop on and get ditched but she clearly wasn't suitable for a young spirited tb and obviously told a bit of a fib about not riding the first time she meets a horse. Plus that pony walked all over her!!

I have to say I did well up a bit at the end.

Just a reminder that the catch up episode is today.
My fiver is on the lady returning the horse...
Did anyone watch the dog one? I had a little cry at the end of that when she left and the dog was at the door :(

Maybe I was the only one - but it made me laugh how the owner was being so 'particular' over the prospective new owner for her horse - there was no mention or light shone on whether the prospectiver owner 'liked' the horse at all. She wasn't my cup of tea at all - spoilt, overweight and no great trainable attitude shining through - I would have turned up and said thanks but no thanks to the horse.

Wouldn't it be funny if the new owner turned up on here :D
I wouldn't be surprised if she bought her back either .. I hope she does :(

My money was on number 1 as well and gobsmacked she was turned down for lack of facilities and perhaps not having enough time to give her, makes you wonder how people managed years ago without a school .Did the current owner ask her how she was going to manage as I dont recall that and the mare went really well for her.

My five year old is schooled in (shock horror) an open field!! Since when has it been impossible to bring on a youngster without a school? 🙊

Yes the dog one made me cry too. Couldn't imagine getting rid of my dogs.

Exactly. Schools are so common nowadays, but certainly not a necessity. I would far rather have had rider one without a school than rider two.

Yep. I had to rehome one years ago due to a change in circumstances and it broke my heart. There's something about dogs that makes them seem so much more vulnerable than, say, cats and horses. They seem to show their emotions very strongly. You can really tell when they are hurting inside. I really hope that one worked out, although the baby pulling her ears made me cringe a bit.

I watched the dog one. It wound me up. If I had a dog that nervous and desperate to be with me I would change me hours, my job whatever, not rehome it just like that, and if I did rehome it it would only be through a trusted rescue that really knows how to sort good homes from not so.

The whole programme was bad, almost saying how easy it is to get rid if you need to.

I'm totally not surprised the horse got sent back, lady number 2 was not the right person.

Although watching it back, I think lady.nunber 1 turned the horse down.

I too think lady number 3 chickened out of getting on the horse, especially after horse was lunged before livery person got on, not a good impression!

I agree. Especially a rescue dog. I just couldn't part with mine in any circumstances. If it didn't break his heart it would certainly break mine.

Dogs just love their owners more than any other animal I think.

I thought the second part of the horse one (Skye) wasn't on until tonight and didn't realise there'd been a dog one too. I've got a lot of catching up to do!

I would say the owner probably does have a few issues handling it, i noticed that when it came back it refused to walk in the stable and when it did go in it was rearing and bucking and i suspect that if it didn't have a haynet to stuff its face on that it probably wouldn't tie up quietly and behave. I also noticed the trailer was backed down the side of the wall and the loading sequence was cut with them hurriedly putting the ramp with lunge line still attached. The horse came across to me as a very spoilt pet who hasn't been taught any manners or ground rules of what is acceptable and what isn't. I also think it was sent back because it showed its true temperament and frightened the lady.

The thing that annoyed me the most was the owner's main requirement being she wanted someone to train and compete the horse. The horse couldn't give a toss about that. In fact, she didn't look the type of horse that would relish a competition life. She looked more like a horse that would enjoy hacking to me. Also, the horses for homes lady said that she moved really nicely. What?

Anyway, yes, I think the owner chose number two as she was most similar to herself.

Have just caught up with this. I agree that the owner identified more with no.2 and also think she preferred for horse to be on livery yard rather than private/secluded land. No.3 definitely worked out horse was too much for her so wise decision not to ride. I also agree with Wagtail, surely not every 5yo has to be aimed at every competition going? I wonder if the owner was confusing bolshy green mareishness (is that a word?) with keen raw talent? Very glad the horse found a home in the end.
