Aug bank holiday weekend plans!

You can't just post that and then leave out the details! :p

I've kind of gone for a change of scene- from small cute and hairy (if a little heavy for sports driving) to bay and sleak and finer than most TBs :p

Very fancy rara! Intended for trials too or more of a showing/generally trotting around the place looking posh type career?

Trials :) once my finances have recovered enough will see he can be downgraded enough to BD along the side :) Trials is his thing but the size of the large hack classes at the more atmospheric shows means we could well be persuaded to give that a dabble in slim form!

Survived first trip out! Very tense lady today but held it together and made it through. Very proud of her.

Excellent! Always good to get the first one out of the way. Millie is off to her very first party tomorrow, I just desperately want her to have a relaxed and stress-free time as possible. She’s been for a drive today and is getting better about travelling, so thats good.

A day of firsts for us today :) My first time going out completely on my own. First test was awful and I went wrong twice :( Second test was better and we won! :D:D So I THINK we have won our first BE point :D And we definitely won our first money :D

Oh damn! AMD is like that, I know so many people who go there but we're all like ships passing in the night :D I'm sure Kira worked about 50 times harder with J than with Adam, hehe. She was sweaty all over including the front of her face which is pretty unusual for her :D

Have fun at Hartpury, you on your own or got people going with you?

My friend who loans Pocholo is very kindly coming with me. It’s going to be a long day - our Ele is at 12:54, Medium at 16:22. With Gloucester traffic I’m planning to leave plenty of time to get there. If I get placed the prize givings aren’t until 18:30. I think a place is optimistic mind you!

We made it up to the Cabin - 177 miles north east which took us 6 hours.

He was understandably a bit tense in the main ring yesterday but managed an ok test with a few bobbles for 65.44 - 6th place so he’s qualified for the final in October.

Then the toys went out the pram in the med warmup. No idea how we managed to win with a decent-ish 64.48.

We have our medium area festival this morning so Keepin my fingers crossed he’s not too tired and not too spooky.

Giant pony stepped up a level eventing yesterday.
No prizes this week - the cooler weather and grass flush has turned him into a spooky wotsit this week so that theme continued for the dressage (30) and SJ (8), so being out of contention he just schooled around the xc for a slow clear. Full of his own self importance when he got home :D

yup soaking here too scats... at least my show is indoors - we'll still get saturated in the warm up, no doubt. What did we expect on a bank hol weekend though...

I shouldn’t complain really, it’s indoor warm up and indoor test, but Millie’s still not happy about standing on the wagon to be tacked up, so we’ll be soaked before we get to the warm-up no doubt. Rather glad I chose this venue and not the slightly closer one though, as that’s completely outdoors!

Have a good one!

Good luck soggy competitors....I find once you get beyond a certain level of wet you stop noticing anyway :D

Good luck (or well done as appropriate) to those competing.
On Thursday took day off work and went to a Nigel Springer clinic. Having explained our issues of being rather keen / strong jumping etc he popped us over some trot and canter poles and a quick pole - jump - pole then it was straight into a course at about 75cm which is what’s we’ve been jumping this summer, plus a big oxer coming off a corner that was a good 80 - 85cm. Harvey promptly demonstrated how exciting he found it all, coming off the corner to the oxer he lengthen his stride and stood off it clearing it by what felt like about a foot...as I wasn’t sure what he was going to do (stand off or chip one in etc ) I slipped the reins so we missed the next jump. Anyway after that he jumped everything beautifully (er apart from a tank off down the long side). We were meant to come back to trot in between jumps which didn’t always happen, and I was reminded about my position and sitting up quicker. If I had a pound for every time I’ve been told that... Nigel liked him, said he was a nice type, liked his jump, just said we needed more discipline....er yes, that sort of is the problem! So hopefully will be able to go to a few more clinics with him.
Yesterday was beautiful and we had booked a XC field near-ish us for lesson with my usual instructor. Harvey felt full of beans and i was feeling a bit wobbly incase he might tank off but worked on transitions and keeping the pace constant whether going uphill of downhill. Got told off for elbows being tense which will make him tense....Instructor says I am riding him better and bringing him back to me quicker. Kept the jumps smaller though finished going over a triple of slightly bigger jumps going uphill which he ate up and I felt a bit less of a wimp.
Rain / wind today, may go for hack later.
Tomorrow pony club show which I fancy going along as its nearly the end of the season though will that be too much excitement for him?!

We've had one measly shower here in Cornwall as I unpacked the harness and tack, didn't even need to put a coat on so the show could have gone ahead quite easily.

*sulks.* Stupid English weather.

Ooo, lots of fun weekends planned - enjoy everyone.

Congrats on the first premium Asha!

D

Thanks Dabdab. He was very pleased with himself too .

We had another good result at Llanymynech yesterday. Aria went double clear again , coming 4th, so think she’s qualified for a regional final . She thoroughly enjoyed herself . She definitely prefers the cooler weather , but I’m so glad we went yesterday as it’s bucketing it down today. Just the daughter left now, she’s doing hunter trial tomorrow. Fingers crossed the weather improves .

Millie’s first competition report!

After wondering whether it was actually an ark we needed this morning, not a wagon, we headed off to do our first dressage test today. I had two main aims- give her as stress-free a journey as possible (she loads brilliantly but is a very nervous traveller) and hopefully make our way around the test without disgracing ourselves.
Venue is a couple of junctions up the motorway so we set off with rain lashing against the windscreen, the wind getting up, and me seriously questioning my sanity. Anyway, the warm up and test were actually both indoors so I decided I had no reason to complain and ought to pull myself together and stop being such a fair-weather wuss.

She was a bit eyes-on-stalks on arrival, but nothing too major. Got absolutely soaked tacking up so got to the warm-up as quickly as possible. She warmed up well, not bothered by the other horses at all, which was good, as we always ride alone at home. She was a bit gawpy at the mirrors but no silliness.

Over to the large indoor for the test, after some encouragment to actually get in the arena. I’d opted for an Intro test to keep the day easy for us both. She wasn’t bothered about the mirrors in this arena, so that was good. Quick trot around and the bell went. She did a really sweet test and didn’t put a foot wrong. I felt her flagging a bit about half way, but I think her adrenaline had finally stopped and she suddenly realised the whole experience had actually been quite tiring!

Judge probably wondered why I was so ridiculously happy at the end, but I have been through absolute hell over the last 12 months, so to just be able to take my own horse out and do an Intro test meant absolutely everything to me.

We managed a very respectable 4th place, with 68.26%.

Loaded and travelled home fantastically and is currently in her stable looking pleased as punch.

And I’ve only owned her for 8 weeks, so we are still a relatively new partnership.

Some pictures-

Well done to every one.

Our first competition of any kind went pretty well yesterday. We did a walk and trot test. C was as good as gold. Even though the venue is encouraging to novice and nervous competitors when I arrived I had begun to wish I had not entered. I warmed up very quietly and did a sleepy kind of test instead of asking for more and getting too much. I did not expect to be placed. Imagine my surprise to find we were 2nd of 6.
Happy day.

Lol no hackney DF ;). Overgrown German riding pony.

We’re a bit damp but Cheeri pony been a good boy and I was better on the back than last time as it’s not the smoothest of rings!

Rather damp but successful day here too. MY RC hosted a dressage to music clinic recently and since I wanted to tag onto that I thought I'd go for the area qualifier too. The AM freestyle is literally the only competitive thing I can do with the RC with my non-jumping animals ;) With little time to practice I wasn't expecting anything and just wanted her to try her best and hopefully not get frightened by her new music. The warm up was sand soup after the heavy rain all day - we walked in and she almost fell flat on her face as it was so deep, which really put the wind up me as I was then paranoid that she'd do herself a mischief. So we walked round a bit and then went and stood by the indoor school.

Figured we'd have to just wing it with no warm up but better safe than sorry. Anyway, into the indoor, wellied her round while waiting for the bell and then off we went.. surprisingly *not bad*, just trailed her bum in one of her half passes. But got all her changes, the walk was a bit poky but then came back together for the trotwork.

Finished on 69% to win the class, so we're off to the champs at Bury Farm next month! Bonkers. I nearly withdrew when I decided we couldn't use the warm up arena :D:D:D

Now I know we have an AM floorplan that works, I might also do some BD musics and see if we could poss qualify for regionals. It was out of the question before cos she just got too scared of the noise but this music by Equidance is just right - poppy to suit her paces but not too loud and thumpy :)

Obligatory pic of the pink pony

Oh my, what a wonderful dressagey weekend on HHO - well done BM, Scats, Meredith and MP, big achievements all round :D (MP I now really want to see a vid of Kira to music, I bet she's so cool).

Sounds like a good clinic Reacher

I think there is video on the way as one of the other girls from the RC said she filmed it. If not I'll have to share my iffy run through from yesterday :D (not very good as she was being a spooky tit!)

So you need no warm up and nickib needs 5 am starts :D or do you just need to go and boot round as much as you can before the bell?!

We’re home again - thought we’d try to avoid the Blair traffic so ended up doing what felt like a tour of the entire country to come home via Edinburgh. Ran out of driving time so my dad met us at Harthill services and took over driving the lorry while I took the car.

Won’t say too much about today’s results as I want to do a report (i made sure I took lots of pictures this time). :)

Well done to everyone who got out and about
