Had my lesson yesterday.. urgh.

My saddle still isn’t right, checked by 2 different fitters in the last couple of months and still putting me in the ‘armchair’ position. Instructor telling me to get my leg back, it hurts but I did my best. I realised I can’t even stand in my stirrups.. because my legs are so far forward so I’m being more handsy because I’m trying to balance myself so I can rise. I’m so behind the movement, I just feel like I can’t ride at all!

Today my knees hurt SO much I struggled to dog walk. 😔

Battling what I think might actually be a chest infection. Had it over a week and I’ve got a dreadful rattle cough and burning chest. I fell asleep at 4.30pm after a day of tidying, then woke half an hour later, feeling rather rough, to go to the farm.
I nearly didn’t ride but thought I’d do a quick hack and was so glad I did. I felt much better after a good canter out.

Chilli was an absolute tit in the school on Friday - clearly a couple of days of cantering means he wants to whizz everywhere! So he worked a fair bit harder than I’d planned and was still fairly sleepy on Saturday morning.

He was very happy to go the clinic though and had a good balance of energy v tension. The heavens opened just before I got on so we were both a bit soggy!

Little video here:

I'm halfway through packing and sorting ponies to go up to the breed show overnight. I'm used to packing for racing. Why is packing for your own so much harder with way more stuff involved!?!?!?!?!
I hate packing for short trips. Why is it that you need the same amount (more?) for a short trip, as a long one?

PSG on Friday - mistakes from me BUT the walk and canter piris were better from me so swings and roundabouts. Tough crowd for 64%+ but just a really nice chilled outing pre nationals.

XC play today - really good lad and dead pleased with him. Less fiery than in previous outings and jumped very sweetly. Nice day trip out :)

I often say you win or you learn - today I managed both! Charlie won his class at eland and was 1 second under the optimum!
Bon was anxious but coping in the dressage, but his brain left him when confronted with a buzzer, a tannoy, a _lot_ of whizzy ponies, and a huge set of mirrors to deal with as well as a set of show jumps. He seems not to grasp he can literally step over the jumps and dries up to anything a bit imposing so while we jumped second presentation he built up 3 stops halfway in so we were E'd - offered the option to go xc but we went and worked in the warm up, got some nice jumps in there and came home.

Babycob came 2nd in his intro test which I was surprised by. Imposter syndrome not helped by a lady I'd warmed up with looking stunned and saying Really? when I got my result!

I knew he was going to struggle with this test because there are 10m circles and a serpentine. He warmed up beautifully and then just died a bit in the test and didn't really go into the contact.

But unlike my fellow competitor he was straight, we used our corners, pretty accurate, nailed all 3 of the turns up the centre line and stayed in a consistent rhythm throughout the test. Everything I wasn't happy with the judge also commented on, it's just in my usual over critical way I only focused on the negatives. We also got an 8 for our walk which I did have a laugh at because it's right at the end of the test and he was very much giving me the "I'm over this dressage stuff" vibe by then!

Nothing horsey for me because T is off games due to a bruised foot. At least he’s being a good boy about tubbing and padding it.
I had an interesting weekend tagging along on a bat survey. Of course I couldn’t handle them but it was very interesting as the surveyors were very generous in sharing their knowledge.
So I’ve had a couple of late nights, followed by sleeping in my horsebox (my YO is one of the surveyors so I slept at the yard)
I can’t believe we used to go camping for a holiday. I had 3 roll mats and it was still flipping uncomfortable!

I've never done photos before so no idea if this works. My accidentally adopted failed dressage horse and I took our first trip in our new lorry to a polework clinic 😁 He was slightly confused by carpet on the ramp instead of the more usual rubber but made it on in about 30 seconds/minute and then travelled really well, phew!

He was absolutely wonderful at the clinic; he's gone from a horse that was so ready to over react to anything and think his world might implode to one that didn't even raise an eyebrow at all sorts of exciting antics happening all around him, even with me worrying from on top! I'm so pleased that he seems so settled mentally, and trying to tell myself to trust us both more now!

I'm back from a fantastic few days at the WES Nationals. 7 placings from 9 classes, and the 2 misses were because I failed to ride for the correct lead depart, which after last weekend's counter-canter work was required :D
Amber was awesome and very chilled, and I'm over the moon that, in most patterns, we had very soft, relaxed paces and transitions. Also, not one but two trophies, one for open ranch riding and one for novice horse ranch riding.
I've never had a trophy before :) We also placed 2nd in the ranch riding championship and have a lovely rosette the size of a dinner plate :)
She was great in the ranch trail classes as well. She seems to really enjoy the obstacles. Our best result there was a 2nd in Amateur, and we managed 5th in the championship.
I'm ridiculously pleased with a 4th in the Amateur ranch riding as the pattern was horrid, I know we're supposed to be positive about these things, but I hated it. But she was so willing and stayed with me. She actually made it enjoyable to ride.
Came home on Sunday, and Amber's having a well-earned relax in the field for a few days now.

He looks like an old pro in the photos, and is absolutely gorgeous to boot.

Congratulations! What was the ranch riding pattern/what was wrong with it?

This was it. Tight to fit in the rectangular arena, lot of turns and changes of pace for 3-4 strides, and the judge also sat at E in chairs with his scribe, we managed not to end up in their laps. :D
I was so proud of her lope overs, those logs were tree branches/logs not SJ poles , she looked I kissed to say yep keep loping and she just took them in her stride.

Had a good time at the WE clinic, despite Bo being a bit over excited and bouncy!

He was very good at ringing the bell and reversing out. He was terrible at the rope gate! 🤣 Think this was mostly my fault!

I have a short video but the forum doesn't like it (wrong extension or something).

Impromptu lesson on Monday as all my hacking buddies are on holiday for the bank hol. Bit cooler and slightly damp which D seems to enjoy as she's a northern lass. Did a lot more work on the canter even managed some 20m circles when I sat on my bum and actually rode. Really feel like my confidence (and Ds confidence) is so much better. Did some accidental extravagant sorting out of legs on the right rein as we didn't start off with the right bend which didn't overly upset me 👍 feels a world away from early spring when trotting was terrifying. Just need to work on the correct bend to support the transition as she gets excited about canter and goes into motorbike mode.
