We have a 15 month old cocker spaniel bitch who isn't that well.
We were told that mum and dad were health tested and clear. Saw the paper work and have a copy somewhere but with house work, walls being knocked down have lost it somewhere and breeder mobile is no longer connecting.

Now she was spayed in June, just had her jab a month ago.
Had the nip Tuck for the excess skin folds op two weeks ish ago.
She has had a temp since, threw up once after drinking out of a manky puddle then fine thought it was because she had eaten something she shouldn't have. Has been very tired, sleeping alot and just more cuddly, very hot to touch and her eye, well one white eye we can see and gums are red. (though the have settles down a lot)
Had bloods at vets on Friday and came up at very very low red and white blood cells but with the high temperature they are bit confused.

They are talking about autoimmune but the high temp is throwing them off as it doesn't match the bloods.

So she is on new antibiotics, steroids for five days then check up beginning of next week and repeat bloods and temperature and take it from there.

She is insured (moot point anyway we would do anything for her)

Has anyone else had any experience with this?

Hoping it's just an odd infection and clears up and she gets back to her bratty self.

The first thing that came to my mind was haemolytic anaemia, with the low red blood cell count and the fact she's a cocker...I really hope it's not this and she has ,as you say ,picked up a treatable infection from the puddle.
Until you get the results,be assured they would treat this in the same way..steroids and antibiotics so your vet is doing a good job.
I hope she pulls round in a couple of days when the a.bs kick in.

Thank you.

I did think of that but she is only showing two symptoms lethargy and fever so that gives me some type of hope.

I also hope it's not because of her vacancie she had on the 9th September as a few people have said that could have caused her symptoms.

I found this link,American cocker spaniel, but still worth a read...see the ref to vaccination and this illness..

What other possible autoimmune illness did your own vets discuss can I ask?
Let's hope for the best, and good luck with the new tests..

Thank you.
I have been reading so much about the new vaccines and how some reports of them making dogs ill but after knowing a dog that dies from leptospirosis and our own collie had a severe bacterial infection that we thought was parvo but thankfully it turned out it wasn't I thought the risk was accepted in my mind.
I hope it's nothing to do with it.

They said that one and one other which I can't remember the name of which is something to do with platelets being attacked.
Because she is a cocker those two are the ones at the forefront but it could be others.
