Co-hosting a Joe Midgley camp. It’s got another day to run but all great so far. Joe with Felix. View attachment 119410

Felix is huge already. He's going to be a big guy.

Long reining! Oh and going to a Scottish festival.. in Colorado 🤣

View attachment 119521View attachment 119522

Is it the one in Estes Park? It's weird, if you've you lived here. Ask some Americans who have never been to Scotland or the UK to design a Scottish festival, and you get that. It's some Scottish/Irish stuff, some druidy Celtic stuff, and some Ren Fair stuff, as well as the pipe band competitions.

Not doing a lot this weekend. Hiding, because the World Cycling Championships has made travelling around Glasgow impossible.

Left home at 7.30am, back home by 10am 😂 I like that kind of showing 😂

Dum Dum was 2nd in his class, just pipped at the post by a nice Colt from a well known Stud. And once again his teeth were ever present as was his 5th leg and his mane was flying everywhere today 🙄 so he was not exactly dope on a rope like some in the ring 😂 but hey! We love a bit of flair and pizazz! He's not naughty by anyone stretch of the imagination - a Pest is more of an appropriate term. We didn't stay for the championships as I knew the weather would shortly turn and I don't do standing about getting soaked to my pants for no reason at all 😂😂😂

At the moment I am hiding in a stable from the rain. I really should be out rejigging some of the electric fencing for when Rains comes home later today.

Sounds like a job well done, and oh my goodness I love him! He sounds like such a great character. Well done Dum Dum! :D

I ended up having another lesson today so that's dressage and a schoolmaster lesson yesterday, then last night impulsively booked in to a group lesson at RS I did the dressage at. Turned out to be a jumping lesson. When they asked 'have you jumped much before?', I said I couldn't remember the last time. I really can't! Almost certainly not this year, I'll have to check back at my videos to find out when it was.

My brain is weird (which is just brains being brains really) - dressage was a high yesterday, then schoolmaster lesson I got overwhelmed by not a lot and left feeling deflated, then jumping today was kind of scary but ended on a high again!

We made it through our test and our circles were actually circular 🥳😅

A bit disappointed to have been bumped down to 3rd at the last minute but considering that this time yesterday I wasn’t actually going to go, I’m pretty pleased that I changed my mind and took a chance.

Now I just need to sort out my walk piri’s as they were rather costly today 🙈

How big is Felix now AE? He looks huge in that photo. He's very smart.

I schooled in high winds and drizzle on baby cob. I'm trialling a different saddle to see if it opens up his trot. It did. I was bouncing around everywhere realising why dressage riders have big blocks and wondering where my core went. Short and sweet schooling so took him for a 30 min ride down the bridlepath afterwards and misjudged the rain on the way back. Drenched!

Lorry ramp fixed yesterday so need to get myself organised and use it.

Not sure but yes he is quite big! He’s super smart now. Looks all grown up

Well, we had a Gatcombe wash out. We were in the novice champs (runs at intermediate level)... Did a rubbish planky dressage test in the sunshine on Friday. Did a beautiful clear SJ round in torrential rain and sloppy mud on Saturday morning. Hung around to last night to see if any xc would run, but ultimately it's cancelled and we're heading home. Ground on course not bad at all, but access for emergency vehicles a problem. And am sure the ground would cut up quite quickly... But mine is a mud lover and I'm a bit gutted because these would have been conditions that would suit him more as a TB than most the others in our class. Anyway, still mega proud of him for his SJ round :)

Well done Dum Dum and team! He sounds like he could be good mates with Badger, they have the same approach 🤣 (although Badger did try to roll twice in the collecting ring - what kind of Shetland gets cross about getting wet?!)

My big gelding rolls when he is too hot, doesn't like the flies, has a rosette put on his bridle, because he can't be bothered etc. He does this inhand as well as ridden and you could merrily be trotting or cantering along and doof! You and he are on the floor rolling about 😂

Still off games with this broken hand but starting to feel the end is in sight. 3 weeks until I can start using it again, 5 weeks until the national championships. Going to be close but I’ll start lunging in hope next week. Rocky (was) super fit so not concerned about his fitness too much, but bitting will need a think! All being well with the lorry that’s having paperwork sorted Monday we should be off to cricklands for 6 days on Tuesday. Quite looking forwards to it as a spectator/holiday! And it’ll be good for my cob too as Ester is driving him.

Local dressage class, travelled badly, stuck in 3 way traffic lights is not acceptable in the not so Adorable Alices' world. Arrived with 20 minutes to spare and a dripping Alice. Hasty wash off and enter at A, proceed down centre line, spook at shaft of sunlight through school door, spring into canter, not required. Proceed to the corner with the dragon in it, assume camel stance, leap to canter, cough, fart and break. Bimble around a few circles and transitions on a varying number of tracks, quarters in out and shake them about.

Proceed down centre line to G, step back into halt and adopt giraffe pose. Travel home badly, god dam those traffic lights again. Throw several buckets of cold water over Adorable Camel and leave her to contemplate her future in her stable. Home now with bottle of cold wine and packet of twiglets.

Felt a bit 'meh' about today's riding lesson. I felt unbalanced a lot and my usual issue of having the reins too long happened. I suspect some of the balance issue is to do with having to put 2 loops in the stirrup leathers (probably should have done 3) and maybe not having a saddle that fits me (at least from reading a lot of stuff on this forum). Lesson itself was OK, had big horse, worked on 2 loop serpentines round trotting poles.

Had a bit of an 'in process' lesson on Friday and hard to not feel a bit blah about it!

I had thought we were going to have a super positive lesson with great progress but came out feeling like we're a bit behind where I thought we were and we have Areas on Friday...
I was sent down the centre line 1000 times and each time just not good enough- I know my trainer (rightly!) has incredibly high standards and she is pushing me because we CAN be better but still felt a bit demoralised.

However, I will watch the videos tonight (haven't so far) and I know I need to work on quicker reactions, more accuracy and improved poll flexion for more energy this week- so not much to do before Friday 😂
And horse doesn't appreciate being drilled so max. 2 flatwork sessions is all I will get to sort my stuff out, no pressure!

Being positive, had a lovely rainy hack yesterday to process the lesson and a great jump session at home today.

Massive well done on the SJ round- shame you didn’t get to go out and smash the xc as well. Stupid British summer!

Less than ideal saddles is one of my least favourite things about not having my own horse to ride! I pick things up on the forum too that make me think sometimes I really am fighting saddles sometime. Hopefully the next lesson will feel a bit better. :)

It's definitely one of the downsides of being a RS rider. Stirrup leather lengths are also a pain. I have to try to remember which ones I need to put loops in and how many! Having short legs can be a pain!

Went hacking today and accidentally found ourselves in the middle of an organised Car Run. Curious mixture of lovely vintage convertibles and hot hatches! All very noisy!

Despite having not hacked out for a few days (which always means a very giddy, over excited pony!), he wasn't at all bothered by the convoy of noisy vehicles.

His halo (which fell off when he tried to bite me 3 times on Friday) is now shining very brightly indeed.

In better news my babies had a lovely time playing with wearing a roller for the first time, all very chilled and easy as it should be!
Still in love with my ginormous 2yro (I am 5'10!!)

I’ll see your 1 ginormous 2 year old and raise you 1 ginormous yearling!

Bets on end height for them both?

Thomas is 16.3hh now, he was 16hh last August as a yearling.
I think he'll be 17.2hh + as is 50% ID and 50% warmblood so sloooow growing apparently 😅

I was secretly hoping we could do a big climb... We'd moved from 64th to 38th already, and I know that he can run and be quick on the terrain and ground.... Although there were a few mahoosive skinnies to stay straight for. But I'm convinced he could have put in a great showing. Oh well - at least we are all intact and ready for another try :)

Huge but very smart. How is he bred?

By Timolin and out of lovely full ID mare by Welcome Diamond.
No TB in his pedigree but him and his full brother both look more blood than the papers say.

I've wanted a Timolin forever but never got around to breeding my own when we were breeding our mare, so I was very happy when I found Thomas for sale!

Isn't that just a glorious advertisement for both Felix and the Western edge of the Peak Park. Who would think that's only a 20 minute drive from a West Coast mainline station and 30 from a huge international airport? Joe's not too shabby either 😄

Smart boy, nearly makes me wish I still had land .....

We were at an XC clinic yesterday, quite boggy but managed to do quite a bit. Both of us really enjoyed it, managed to jump a fairly big step - I don't like steps - and Buzz surprised me the most by taking a hold and cantering towards a ditch, he really doesn't like ditches (that's where the monsters hide) so to have him that keen was such a nice feeling.
I don't have any jumping photos but I like this one, just a moment of us standing and listening, yes he's fat (and actually wasn't the fattest there...) and I that chair seat is pretty terrible but being able to stand on a loose rein relaxed but interested, despite having got all excited jumping makes him such a good pony, I really do love him :)
