Avon skin so soft as fly repellent ??

Yes, I use it, I dilute it down however as it is quite strong. If you have a sensitive horse I would also recommend patch testing it first too!

Yes it is good stuff (the green bottle), BUT I did have to use some stronger stuff when the flies were really bad.

My lad has been getting bites on his privates, so I'm using SSS at the moment.

Does seem to work, but I find it solidifies really easily and so spend most of my time with it in my bra or waistband trying to melt it to sort on the horse!

This!

Wonderful stuff for my SI boy. Cheap, cheerful but it will insist on going solid when it gets cold!!!!!!!

Definitely recommend you give it a go.

It was often mentioned by Keith Arthur on his radio programme Fisherman's Blues as the best fly / mosquito / insect repellant for anglers... No reason it shouldn't work for horses and riders too!

I tried it about 8 years ago and it didn't work for my horse at that time, but I might give it another go!

Shysmum, could you send me a link to the exact one you used as there seem to be quite a few variations :)

So Fresh, lie bottle. I add tea tree, eucalyptus, citronella, neem and cedar wood atlas essential oil plus a couple of capfuls of dettol, top up to a litre with cold water, shake as using. It's never solidified for me.

Yes, it does go hard! Just pop it in a jug containing pretty warm water and it will become liquid again! Make sure your water is not too hot or else you'll melt the bottle too!

Apparently The Marines have Avon SSS as part of their kit/medical bag to repel flies, midges etc. I've always preferred this spray to 'horse sprays' you buy in a tack shop. Just make sure you buy the right one, as I think there are different varients within the range. You must look for the 'Avon Skin So Soft Original', dry oil spray. If it goes hard pop in a jug of hand hot water and it will go back to liquid! Sorry about the above post, I intended to answer a previous post. (I'm not too clever on this website ! lol)

Thanks everyone :-) at £2 per bottle im def giving it a go :-) anything to save money these days I`m afraid. Have done the Coopers/Naf off etc etc

Is this the one with the BLUE markings????? I just hope I've got the right one!!

Agree its a right pain in the wotsit when it goes all solidified, IME the aerosol pump thing ain't exactly brilliant either and I've ended up using it by taking off the stopper thingey and using it like a liquid.

I've used it for a lot of things: on the horse its fantastic to get a nice shiney coat (and hopefully deter midges); plus its brilliant for when you've washed a mane, tail, or feathers, if you just spray and comb/brush through its a wonderful de-tangler. Ditto for human hair.
