My horse had the vet yesterday (always at weekend when it's a double callout charge of course!) as she came in crippled. Vet said to treat as abscess for now and he poulticed it for me. Well I went to B&Q today and was immediately approached by one of the older members of staff. He asked what I wanted, and I said that I wanted some thick black tape ( I couldn't remember the name of it). He showed me the different tapes and then asked what it was for. I said that it was for putting over the top of a poultice on a horse's foot, expecting that blank look that you normally get when you mention horses outside horse circles. He immediately said that it was gaffer tape that I needed and got me some. He then asked whether horse had abscess which I confirmed and then was telling me that he used to sell cider vinegar for horses and that it's useful for hooves when diluted in water, to either clean their feet with, or let them walk through, and apparently can be helpful in preventing abscesses! Well you learn something every day! It was nice to go into a store where the staff actually showed and interest even though it wasn't diy I wanted it for and not only that, but give some handy tips as well! Well done B&Q!!
