I have just purchased a horse and as part of his wardrobe I also have a nearly new back on track rug. Have done a little reading but when and why do people use theirs? Have they noticed vast improvements? Bit unsure as to how to use the thing. He came Saturday and I rode out Sunday, he wore it for half an hour before we left is this long enough?? Also used it as a cooler once we got back.

Any ideas much appreciated :) thanks, Ben

Have you got the mesh one or the fleece one?

I have the mesh one, it's lined so makes a great cooler, I also use it travelling to shows or lessons and whenever I need to throw a sheet on a horse if a stable rug is too warm. My oldie has been wearing it during the day when she's stabled. Haven't a clue whether it makes any difference compared to anything else though, there are too many variables to be able to tell for sure ;) I keep meaning to get myself a neck warmer thing, I get such stiff shoulders in the winter and people do seem to think they are good.

We have a fleece, which my retiree is wearing overnight in his stable at the moment. I've found it doesn't layer brilliantly under other rugs, but that's mostly because rugs without gussets are always snug around his chest/shoulders. He's definitely warm enough in it, but I don't think it has magical properties.

I've worn infrared clothing by Under Armour and again it kept me warmer, but I still kept going to the physio/chiro!

I have one of their human back supports and it's brilliant. I twisted my back getting bucked off a few weeks ago and spent a week with it on. It really does warm up sore muscles.

Oh okay good to know it works! So before and after exercise??? And for how long?? As he's new I'm not sure how clean he is in the stable so don't want to leave it on him unattended at the moment.. maybe under a sheet in the stable??

they wash pretty well. I've been leaving mine on my older mare all day so from 8am to about 5pm. She has a snooze in hers, I wash it if it gets grotty. Some people leave them on overnight.

Whatever you decide time wise, you're supposed to build it up slowly :)

My fleece washes well, it just does that thing that fleeces do and gets coated in shavings.

I've recently purchased a mesh rug after using a long sleeved top on myself. It seems to make a difference with my back and shoulders. It also keeps me really warm.

I did however order a 6ft rug and it's could do with being a 6'3. Horse is an inbetween size so would recommend going to for the larger size if anyone was to purchase.

I gather he's been regularly wearing it pre and post work.. if it keeps you warm would it be any good under a sheet for a cozy stable rug??

I don't see no reason why it couldn't be used under any other rug. I thought about putting it under a light weight when it's not quite medium rug temp.

My top did however make me sweat when it started to become warmer weather and I'm not a sweaty person. I really rate mine hence purchasing the horse one.
