Badminton 2024 thread

If BC wins it will be the stuff of dreams but not convinced. He'll do a great dressage and ground should suit him. He's won 3 5*'s so his show jumping isn't that bad! It may be a bit warm so running so late in the day won't be best as horses not acclimatised to the warmer weather yet. Have just trace clipped shetland as, although she's moulting enough to line every bird's nest in the county, she was sweaty under her mane today.

ETA BC is only 16 (officially 17 but will just be reaching that birthday unless he foaled extremely early). That's not old!

Depends on what it’s like on Friday…last year it was torrential rain on the Friday, Saturday was actually nice but my god it was muddy!!!!

Next week looks good all week bar a bit of light rain on Saturday…so I’d say walking shoes or comfy boots. Wellies if it rains before XC day x

I am going this year, never been before so its a tick off my bucket list. I have booked for a caravan but will probabely leave before the XC as I hate the mad crush and by then my husband will be well peed off.

If you don’t want to get caught up in lots of people I recommended just going in early and getting set up in the stands in the main arena- you have the screen in there and the first/ last jump so get the action and atmosphere but without any crush

Now that tickets have to be purchased beforehand, and therefore there is little delay at the entrance with payment, how does the traffic compare to earlier years? We are going on cross country day, so trying to work out how long extra we need to allow.

Last year, my friends and I were in queues for about 2 hours! We weren’t even travelling very far, maybe like a 30 min journey (on a normal day)

If you're going on xc day, aim to get there by 7.30, absolute latest!

Then you can park, have a leisurely breakfast and some shopping before the xc starts.
Any later and you are in danger of being caught in the tailbacks.
Unfortunately pre-purchased ticketing doesn't help much with traffic flow on single track lanes.

Why did they swap dates - was it for the M25 closures or is that just coincidence?
As I understand it, it was down to the TV coverage at Badminton not being available 1st weekend in May, so RWHS was asked to swap dates. Back to usual dates next year though.
I could be wrong tho.
Usually half the Badminton trade stands go on to RWHS, instead it will be the other way round.

M25 closure is just coincidence as the dates were only arranged this year. 3 or 4 more to come.

Always get there by 8am on XC day or be prepared to sit and wait!! Regardless of ticket sales in advance…I don’t know why it takes so long but it always does!

Hope they have more toilets this year it was dreadful on XC day last year

What a shame for him. He must be gutted. So he’s got nothing running now?
I don’t know who I’d put my money on now. There are a lot of combinations I don’t think I know.

Nothing at all as he withdrew the other.

Think I’ll be going Ros, Tom J on Walshy, and a shout for Emily King if she finishes the xc!

Can the grand slam roll onto next year or does it have to be subsequent events? I can’t remember, it’s a while since there’s been anyone up for it.

Has to be three in a row, so whoever wins this year’s Badminton would need to win Burghley 24 and Kentucky 25.

Pip did all three in one year, MJ split across two if I remember rightly.
