Does anyone know if they're doing anything to the car park? It was a nightmare a couple of years ago in the wet (4 hour queues and people being towed out) and this year I won't have the benefit of a nice 4x4 to get me out!

Have already ordered tickets and don't want to loose my money but seriously debating what to do!

I reckon it might be cancelled too, but people seem to think I'm being silly! Loads of other BE events have been cancelled and although they're not on the same scale or level as Badminton there's only so much you can do. You can't stud up in mud like this!

Agreed it maybe cancelled.

I can't remember which year it was, but it was knee deep in mud one year and hardly anyone finished and lots of accidents.

Should have been cancelled then

Would think the organisers would look at the weather forecast then make a sensible decision for everyone concerned

Sad but safety must come first

EEk just think what the shopping village would be like! I'm going to be carry the blinking dog I imagine!

Badminton are not intending cancelling. This is their statement on FB
Lots of people are asking if the event is still on. The answer is yes!! We are working flat out to preserve the ground so that it will be in a good state when it dries out next week. So all vehicles have been banned from leaving the hard roads and no one is allowed to walk the course this weekend.

I'm not surprised at their fb statement they certainly have nothing to gain from saying they are thinking about cancelling at this early(ish) stage.

I'd be surprised if the ground on the main course wasn't fine, we are very low-lying and the paddock with grass cover is absolutely fine, in fact it has just about got rid of the cracks! and it doesn't get any special care that the badders track might get. I would think the parking/shopping/people routes will be more problematic.

They won't want to cancel it in the run up to the olympics either, then again, would you run your olympic hopeful if it was wet..

It will be the shopping village and the carpark that will be the issues. Its a shame they can't run it without spectators really!!

We don't think we will bother this year.:(

As someone whose booked a weekend if it I'm more concerned from a spectators point of view about the amount of people that won't run xc. Not that I blame them but no fun waiting 30 mins between each horse.

Think it will dry up fine - its on top of the cotswolds and is oolitic limestone - very free draining - couple of dry days with wind and it will be fine!

Wish they would let everyone who is on the Waitlist in then, on the basis that if half the field don't withdraw, then they don't go XC, but if they do all withdraw, then the Waitlisters have the chance to go XC and complete if they want.

I'm guessing a number would do the dressage before withdrawing anyway, so it wouldn't do much use - they simply cannot fit in any more dressage tests from a judging point of view :(

I wouldn't be surprised if it's cancelled, it's the cars and trade stands which do the damage.
Don't think your dog will enjoy trudging round in the mud mine wouldn't thank me!

Many years ago (probably about 25/30) it had been incredibly wet and on the final day the SJ went ahead but no vehicles were allowed into the park. We were all parking in places like Acton Turville and walking in. Probably wouldn't be allowed now as the lanes are very narrow and you could bet there'd be a H&S issue.

It's going to be horrible wet and muddy!! And I'm working on the Saturday!!, wet and dirty much?

Looks like I was right, event cancelled this morning.

Maybe this is what they meant by the end of the world in 2012 :(

Right, I'm off to see about Burleigh, Gatcombe and Blenheim tickets instead! :(

That is such a shame - very sorry for all the competitors, trade stand holders and spectators. Very bad news.

Bugger :(

Safety comes first; it is just typical though. I had tickets for last year when the sun was blazing and I came down with tonsilitis and couldn't go anywhere, this year I have tickets again and the bloody weather thwarts me!

Was so excited about the shopping too :( Oh well. Got the Olympic Cross Country at least!

Blessing in disguise (sp) for me. I have tonnes of uni work to be in the following tuesday so the day off is much appreciated! Although missed opportunity to spread horsewatch.
