Badminton virtually cancelled???

[ QUOTE ]
If it is virtually cancelled, will they put something on the website to let us know?

I doubt they would be able to (at least until tomorrow morning) as they will not cancel it - it is the riders being no shows that will virtually cancel it and they are not deciding until the morning.
And they won't say anyway because they will still want visiters money!!

I quite agree racecourses are not 4 miles round like Badminton, but on the other hand most of them are 3 or more times wider than the galloping track of a 3DE so overall area is not dissimilar. At least we should be grateful that they no longer have roads and tracks etc. I was originally not in favour of the "short format" but if extreme weather is the future, it was absolutely the right decision.

no they wont tell anyone - i heard that too yesterday from two competitors - and although it wasnt totally secret, they both told us - they're trying not to let it out to the public, so it doesnt put people off going, so that it is all a bit of a disaster tomorrow - so that everyone involved reaslise how important it is, and how it shouldnt be over looked. the ground is appalling and there are a huge number who wont run. riders were trying to get every competitor to withdraw so that it IS a total disaster and they do something about it - after all, this is the biggest 4* in the world - it wont reflect well on the sport at all if there are no competitors especially as someone has enabled 4 hours to be shown over the weekend on the BBC. think wfp did well to walk away so quick - definately made a point!!

Who has withdrawn then? I may be a bit thick, but i dont get why they want to all withdraw just to make a point. Surely the Badminton organisers weren't so foolish as to think that the riders would run on hard ground. I can't believe they would have sat back and hoped for the best with something like this

have to say - I've been keeping an eye on the latest results after dressage page on the website & it keeps being mucked up, almost like they're editing it.

Might be worth watching it over the next couple of hours

Hmm i noticed that too. It would be such a shame if lots withdrew. It would certainly take something out of the win for whoever won it. I fear we may have to deal with these situations more in the future, this kind of weather we have been having is certainly a warning of things to come

IF there is a no - run event then I truely hope that there will be NO entry fee, and a rebate to anyone who HAS paid - the tradestands will be fuming too!

they were warned weeks ago bout the ground and the fact no one woud run withington almost cancelled due to the ground. No one will run millions of pounds worth of horse on that going big meetings happening as we speak, not including the officials riders meeting at horseboxes to discuss wot to do!!

I don't remember there being a refund paid when I drove to Badders on X-C day & found it cancelled due to heavy rain about 20yrs ago.

...But we didn't have the Internet to keep us abreast of the goings-on back then.

I think that in the riders meetings HT will have asked the riders not to make a decision until Sunday morning - this way, they don't have to put up on the web that lots of the "big names" are not running but they also can't get accused of covering it up.

oh crap I have 3hrs to drive tomorrow and have bought tickets already I hope it is going to be ok and they will all run! Well most of them, we can only hope!
