Hi guys,

A few people have told me the Baileys no.4 topline and condition and baileys No.11 race horse cubes are the same.....the only difference ive found is the No.11 has 0.5% more protein and more vitamins...and is quite a few quid cheaper a bag!!!

Before I jump for joy over saving a few bob and switch onto the No.11 has anyone else noticed this and done the same/used them??

Sneaky beaky baileys!!!!

Regards,

Not checked, but we sell Hilight (which is Baileys 'cheaper' range) Improver COnditioning Cubes instead of No 4.

I'm trying to put weight on a poor condition tb......apparently these worked a treat on him before. He's eating through a bag in 6days and at £13 a sack I'm feeling it!!! Whilst looking for a cheaper alternative I was told about the race horse cubes

A Baileys rep once told me there was hardly anything in it but a lot of people would be put off at the thought of feeding Racehorse Cubes, they are cheaper because there is no Vat payable on racing feed...:)

My vet advised me to feed my aged gelding on racehorse cubes when he dropped a lot of weight due to an injury, said they had similar calories and content to build up feeds

I dont know about the difference between the 2 feeds but if I was going thru a sack of feed a week, I would seriously change the type of feed my horse is on, gradually of course, yadda yadda yadda....

There is no VAT payable on livestock feed, horses are livestock. It does get rather confusing - rabbit food is not vatable as they can be raised for meat, but Guinea pig food is vatable. Oh, and dog food is the same, if it says on the bag, 'working' then it's not vatable.

Trust me, I've done the research and the other makes and options are just as pricey and very similar! Im hoping that I can keep his weight up and next winter we'll not have this expense. I'm feeling hopeful that these race rose cubes will be 4quid cheaper a bag which will be a relief!

This is interesting I feed no.4 and although I don't go through it that quickly I'm always looking for ways to save money! So other than more protein and vitamins they are essentially the same thing?

Baileys Topline Condition Cubes:
Micronised Wheat, Nutritionally Improved Straw, Wheatfeed, Distillers’ Grains, Micronised Soya Beans, Molasses, Soya Oil, Calcium Carbonate, Vitamins and Minerals, Calcined Magnesite, Sodium Chloride

( I copied and pasted the ingredients list from the baileys website!)

BTW At the point yard we feed spillers HDF Power cubes or/and Lay off cubes even to show horses and its great for putting weight on etc.

The only difference is that the Racehorse Cubes are fully balanced - they have all the vits & mins added into them. The Conditioning Cubes don't and thus they 'recommend' that you buy their balancer to compliment them.

I cant quote as I am on my phone, however I agree with your response as finding a similar feed but at a cheaper price, in which case go for it.
I was just wondering about you going thru a bag a week. That to me indicates that the feed in general is not doing what you want it do.
Ask the advice of an independant nutritionalist that isnt just going to sell you their most expensive product.
IMO I am a fan of oil based feeds and unmolassed sugar beet for weight gain, as much forage as you can stuff in them, and double check teeth to ensure optimum digestion.
Hope it all works out!xx

Stud and yearling cubes are usually the same as conditioning cubes but cheaper. Before the days of things actually labeled 'conditioning', we would feed stud or yearling cubes to anything that needed building up, always worked a treat :)

I would also feed some grass nuts as they are a good conditioning feed, being grass cut at the most nutritious stage of growth.

This is great in the sense of finding the same feed for cheaper however completely irritates me at the same time! It's just down right cheeky the fact that 2 feeds can be pretty much identical but have a serious difference in price and the fact they have race horse written on them would mean people wouldn't even bother to look what the difference is you just assume.
I currently use their stud balancer as it's the cheapest going and does a super job even though my mare isn't a broodmare lol

Indeed they are!! The only other difference is that they're £4 cheaper a bag lol. I've got a 17.2 tb and I've really made sure that they're not gong to hype him up! Save yourself some money. My feed shop have ordered me a load in x

It appears the old girls going onto racing cubes :)

Indeed I am! I've just read that the racing cubes are a complete feed where as no.4 is recommended to be fed alongside a balancer..,,I.e their very expensive outshine (which happens to be the same as build and glow by D&H (I've done e comparison) and its half the price!! Does this mean I can ditch the outshine??

The nutritional amounts are the same too lol! It's quite shocking lol...cheeky monkey baileys lol!

So when I move onto the race cubes (when they arrive n feed shop) can I ditch buying the outshine??!!! Or perhaps ditch the outshine onces he perked up condition abit?

Cheers for this info!

Baileys do this with other products too.... Their yearling cubes and stud cubes are almost identical!

Cheeky monkeys!!! Until someone makes you aware you stay away from these products.......I will still hide the packaging of "racehorse cubes" away from my tb incase he gets any ideas lol!

I was told by baileys to use their outshine to compliment the No.4.....now if they had told me to use the race horse cubes I wouldn't need to spend £36 on the baileys outshine!! Now that takes the mick abit doesn't it!!!

I also found the D&H do a balancer called build and glow! It's the same as the outshine balancer and half the price!

I too was abit annoyed that a paid someone for their advice n my horse and....well, u know the rest! X

I'm tempted to email or call Baileys helpline, and question the difference between the two !

Your brave lol! The person that told me on here said that a Baileys nutritionalist told her! I've been using that product for years....just think of the £'s I could of saved...grrrrr lol.

If you do call please do let me know.....
