I've been feeding loan horse outshine at the request of his owner who has also been providing it. They are no longer going to (which is absolutely fine, I've never asked for or expected them to provide anything) however I just had a quick look and it appears to be £38/£40 a bag.
Is there an alternative? Is it really that much better then say the equivalent micronised linseed (after all that's basically what it is!)

All in all he has Baileys Ease and Excel, this has gut support etc added shops own conditioning cubes, speedibeet. I then add a joint supplement, protexin gut balancer and feedmark gastric comfort

So in that case my feeling is you're paying (or the owner is)a premium to double up on some things and plain old micronised linseed would be a fair swap and financial saving :)

Have a look at Keyflow feeds. Pink Mash has a full dose of protexin in it, and they do a rice bran oil product as well. Those 2 things could replace what you are currently feeding and should work out cheaper

I got a sample as you had mentioned or recommended this previously and it sounded good. He won’t eat anything mashy though. I may get s proper sack and see if persevering helps!

Ease and Excel contains Outshine already (and actually Protexin too)
If the horse drops weight then go for the linseed if adding anything else

Its so low sugar the odd one wont touch it. I love the stuff but I feed it to good doers. If the Ease and Excel works it might be worth looking to see exactly what is in it. If its got protexin etc already you might be able to drop all the other stuff and just increase that possibly with added linseed

I fed it so it was crumbly rather than mashy, mainly to minimise mess and pink slop everywhere!
He dislikes crumbly too :( Feeding this horse really has been the most difficult thing ever! Sometimes i sit and just will him to eat a bit more...Just another mouthful!
I know the Ease and Excel contains Outshine already so yes it seems a bit silly feeding extra. I *think i remember him refusing plain linseed (probably not enough "bite") I think i may give Dodson and Horrel build and glow a try as its pellets but half the price- more comparable to Micronised linseed.
There's a lot to be said for god doers!
