Hey guys

At the moment I am riding with a balance strap to stop myself from releasing the contact, which I seem to be in the habit of doing. I am, however, a cheapskate and have made mine from a bit of bailing twine.

My next dressage test is under BRC rules, and I've checked and confirmed I can continue to use the strap in tests. Do you think I'd get away with just using a bit of brown ribbon tied as my bailing twine currently is, or am I going to have to shell out for a proper leather one?

And if the latter be the case, where on earth can you buy the leather ones!? I've seen people wearing them but never seen them in the shops!

I would imagine if the ribbon is the same colour as your saddle and is the same length as a balancing strap then you should be OK

Alternatively you can buy them from most tackshops, they're not expensive.

That's where I got mine and it's very smart but baler twine or a flash strap will do the job just as well.

I was looking at that one actually, albiet in brown. Does it actually lay flat like she says it does or is it as obstrustive as in the photo?

I'll maybe have an ask around the yard and see if anyone has a spare flash strap I could use. I used to have one, but I'm fairly sure it's disappeared off the face of the earth...

Thanks for the quick resonse!

It sort of falls forward rather than sticks up so not so noticeable. I think it depends on the saddle a bit too. Mines a medium/medium wide and it's just right on that. However a friend who had an XXW Cob saddle found it a bit on the short side.
I think Arizonahoney was linking to the same site so may she could comment too.

That's good to know. I thought it sounded rather long but my saddle is around the same width wise. Thanks for the help!
