Bank End Rescue Shuts Down

I don't really know anything about this place but it is very close to where I live. I have only heard bad things about it and I hope all the horses are ok :(

I couldn't believe that she had re-opened after last time. I only found out when I saw the awful photo's of some of the horses in her care a couple of weeks ago.

I also feel stupid that the first time around she well and truly pulled the wool over my eyes, I was willing to help fundraising etc as I thought it was for a good cause........

The whole thing has made me somewhat cynical now :(

Are we sure it is shut down this time? Can I ask where the info came from? I still find it unbelievable that it re-opened last time!

I won’t comment on BER as I don't know the details apart from odd snippets I've heard but there are too many so called rescue organisations setting up or folk with all be it good intentions, that simply don’t have enough time, the resources, money for forage and veterinary care or even enough land to provide adequate grazing, unfortunately many of the horses in these little so called rescue set ups end up worse than when they first set foot in them.

Of course I doubt any of it is intentional and I do believe their hearts are in the right place 80% of the time but these people have to know when enough it enough and manage the ones they have correctly before taking on any more.

It’s a sad situation for all concerned, I hope all the neddies are safely re-homed or PTS to prevent any further distress and perhaps if anyone can help to rehome they get in touch with the relevant people.

Apparently two are being kept, one going to a 'friend' and the rest you can all apply to rehome as they are being sold! Is it legal to sell horses and ponies that belong to a 'charity' ?

No. You need to have 5k in a bank account and be breathing.
Oh you can take the 5k out of the bank once you are registered ;)

^^ This. I have no awareness of the people or events that have occured but hope the horses get the best outcome.

Surely if the horses are really being sold in the current market only the meat man will want to buy! Or are they going to be sent from pillar to post at the auctions.

I really do hope this time closed really means closed I will never forget those pictures.

I agree. It's a real concern actually. I'm wondering why the RSPCA aren't stepping in to seize.

Maybe we should all set up as 'charities' then claim all our expenses back. I see competing as fundraising....
On another point, if its a charity, how did she come by these horses? Bought or given to her? If gifted, I hope the original owners have proof they weren't to be sold. How many people have ended up giving their horses to a charity during the last few years due to financial pressures? To find out you thought you had done the right thing by your horse, then discover this would be hideous.

There is no law against selling horses to the meatman or passing them from pillar to post. The RSPCA have no powers to seize anyway, the police do that for them. There are no powers for the police to seize horses just because they may be passed from pillar to post unfortunately.

You are of course correct, in some ways.

However, given the close association the RSPCA have with BER (13 odd horses destroyed on their advice/instruction last year), two horses seized this year, and general continued monitoring, I remain surprised that they are not involved in the re-homing of the new lot of horses (as is usual in cases like these).

BER is also a charity. So selling anything would be highly irregular.
