So, little cocker spaniel was out of sorts yesterday, signs of sickness, didn't eat her tea last night. Not on death's door but she just wasn't her usual 'spaniel' self.

I had an inkling...in the past I have seen signs that she has coughed up a stone that she's swallowed...and just though what if there is one stuck somewhere. Off we trundled to our local surgery after ringing the out of hours number. Vet kept her in and ex-rayed her and then we got the phonecall to say there was a blockage. So, they operated and removed a stone (quite a decent size) from her stomach - it had travelled down all the tubes!!

So now we have a very sorry looking little dog and a HUGE vet bill. But feeling good that we took her when we did as things could have been a lot worse. Always best to trust your instinct.

Might consider getting insurance for her....

Very glad you followed your instinct and that she is going to be OK :) Vets bills....pah, been there got the T-shirt, wouldn't swap my lot for the world :D

Pleased she is ok, well done for following your gut feeling. Thanks for reminding me that my spaniels free insurance is about to run out and I need to sort a proper policy.

Defo get insurance! I'd be £3000 out of pocket on one dog alone without it. Over the years, Brig has cost me thousands, too, just a typical springer, straight through brambles, never round!

Thank goodness you followed through..my little schnauzer is just coming out of the stone pick up stage..but I'm really careful to check the garden for any loose stones that seem to surface the soil after a heavy rain..I use a fine rake, then collect.I even use a wet dry vac to pick up gravel sized stones...thankfully she is growing out of this habit, but to start with I have had to pull stones out of her mouth. It almost seems like an obsession in these young active breeds.
I still don't leave her unsupervised in the garden and she is 6 m ,she has a penchant for eating beetles now...whatever next?

Oh well done you. Sorry it was an expensive stone but glad your little dog can now concentrate on getting better.
it is impossible to keep them away from all stones, I have gravel paths in my garden but luckily so far have not had a dog that is interested in stones.
