HI GUY,read a lot about this diet do you think my staffi is 2 old to change onto this diet he will be 13 in march,he is not ill only a bit stiff on one back leg,which he as joint aid for and can still run and walk about a 1/2 mile a day with no problem,would go more but i cant, he is feed on bakers dry food,i would like to try the raw diet if it would give him a longer life
 
It really depends on him, at that age he might not be to fussed about changing if he is used to his feed and also he might struggle with his teeth on the harder bones. However I have seen quite old dogs change and my sister had a 17 year old still on the diet when she died, she had changed onto it when she was about 10. The oldest I changed one over was 9. But I would never say never.

You would have to be careful how you introduced it, my sister with her olds tends to bash the bones a bit for them, a cheap axe from the DIY store is invaluable when feeding oldies. That said Supermarket chicken wings the bones are very soft. You could try staring with lightly cooked muscle meat and see how he goes to start with.

At the end of the day it is not a miracle maker and won't turn back the years but aged dogs could well benefit. I would do some research, Ian Billingshursts book is excellent "Give Your Dog a Bone" or do some googleing, a lot of homeopathic vets give some good advice on feeding natural diets too.
 
I won't hurt him to change in fact if he takes to it it will probably do him some good.

Just make sure you keep an eye on him so he is not struggling to chew the bones ect.

Kingliam, he should be fine. I've known several dogs to be changed to BARF at various ages - my Lab was 8 when we switched her and she had no problems at all and is thriving!
