You see, I believe that if you do something to another you should expect to have it back..........................

Oh here we go, 4 weeks' community service and off we go.

I will be interested to see what they get!

Is this how they get there 'Kicks' shooting a pair of defenceless ponies to the ground!
Erm...Give the owner the gun so they can see how it felt!

Oh but we'll need to give them lots of help and support and expensive holidays abroad to help them develop into rounded human beings. They probably only did this because they had a disturbed childhood and their parents didnt love them and its a cry for attention and and and all the rest of the b@ll@cks that will be said by the do-gooders.

Never has a truer word been said!!! It makes my blood boil

i think they should be locked up for life. if they have the mentality to do this to these poor defenceless creatures they have the mentality to do it to a human being so should be served a sentence accordingly. rip little ponies.

Complete and utter Bastards, I really hope they get what's due to them but like you've all said......... they'll be treated like victims, everyone else & his dog will be blamed for this not those disgusting, pathetic cowardly little shits ! Their names should be published so that we all know who they are and where they live, that way maybe they will get what's due to them !

I am sorry but I am finding some of the comments a bit superficial. Of course what these children did was horrible and shocking, but this should lead us to consider them and their act with proper reflection, not quick emotions about beating them up or even killing them (how old are the people making these comments??). Despite media and public panic about the violent content of video games, movies and TV, the only proven correlation between seriously violent adults and childhood exposure to violence is the torture of animals. Although not all children who torture animals go on to become seriously violent adults, there seems to be evidence that the vast majority of seriously dangerous adults did (severely) torture animals as children. IF this is true then we need to act now to prevent these children from doing even worse things in the future. Prison terms tend to make things a lot worse for children, exposing them to drugs, deviant peer groups, and making it almost certain they will re-offend. Rehabilitation sounds a more promising option for everyone involved, especially as the focus should be on preventing them from re-offending.

(Feel free to disagree with me, but please do not simply scream at me that I am a "sandal-wearing, bunny-hugging, liberal vegetarian", try an argument instead)

Couldn't agree more, this happened just a few miles from us and the whole town was in shock. The older lad has been locked up since it happened, which I think is probably for the best. Shame they haven't named the 14 year old, I think a few people would like to pay him a visit. The nursing home has new ponies now, just hope some other little idiots don't decide to try the same thing.

Disgusting...The worst thing is we all know they will be put on the naughty step and have wrists slapped then off you go you naughty young scamps...

Ok Booboos, I take your point about a fast emotional reaction, for instance I would have felt like shooting them if I had witnessed these actions and obviously that would have been wrong BUT I still think these children should be made to realise what they have done is very, very wrong ! How to go about this is a complicated mine field of differing views & attitudes. I am 50 years old and maybe you are suggesting that people over a certain age are too black & white about wrongs & rights ? This may be the case in some instances but I cannot in any way understand the mentality of this action and do think that something has gone desperately wrong with our society that we don't restore some sort of old fashioned discipline to these and other kids. I'm not advocating putting them in stocks for the locals to through rotten fruit at but neither am I fond of the "lets find an excuse" for them band, what would you suggest ?

nothing in your reply BooBoos, can sway me away from my original comment..that they, and countless other mindless little oiks in this country, could and would, benifit from a damned good hiding!..

i haven't mentioned "shooting" them, "killing" them, or any other comments that have been made...just a good hiding..preferably with a "birch"...

if there was a substantial deterrent to most crimes, fewer would be commited....

i'm not going to scream at you, you are, like the rest of us entitled to YOUR opinion....as i am entitled to mine.

not sure what age has to do with this but i am 47...i was brought up in a society where we took responsibility for our own actions and the punishment if needed, not like today's "blame culture" which is more often than not, fuelled by "Do-Gooders"...

I think some of us are just making comments (for example like mine) as a way of letting out our anger, of course I wouldn't shoot someone in the wot nots as that would make me just as bad as them, so I do see your more level head point of view on the matter.

Like you say, what is the answer?, lock them up and they mix with similar kind of people and come out of prison worse or give them a slap on the wrist and try rehabilitation courses etc...but is that punishment? I think they'd just laugh in the faces and think it was a big joke...I know the youth round our area certainly would and no doubt would do it again if that's all they got. I do think all this violence in video games etc plays a huge part, if they want to shoot why don't they take up the sport...really cant understand.

Did anyone watch cops with cameras (or was it traffic cops?) last night, they arrest them and they want to go to prison because its an easy life for them...its totally crazy!

Kenzo, I saw Traffic COps last night, and I don't know how those policmen managed to restrain themselves from punching some of those little oiks, sorry if that offends anyone. With regards to the 2 lads who shot the Shetlands, there was a lot of talk at the time that one of the lads involved was a vets son. If this is true I know the family in question and cannot believe it is the typical bad upbringing scenario that is often blamed for such things.

I know, I could not believe that lad caused that crash in that metro I think it was, that rolled several times and his girlfriend that got thrown out and another walking wounded....didn't show any remorse what so ever, just stuck two fingers up, he could of killed those 2 girls that were in that car, some of them just don't care, unbelievable!

These b*stards who think they are something above the law DO need teaching a lesson. They clearly haven't had proper guidance from their parents so should be taken into care. Sadly care homes for these types of offenders no longer exist. My dad was a teacher at such a care home in the 60s and 70s. It was a great place as it wasn't a prison or a borstal, it was a residential school. The kids were given some proper discipline and given appropriate rewards - not holidays to exotic locations but maybe a trip to Derbyshire to go climbing or some other adrenalin sport.
I have met some of the ex-pupils of the school who were VERY grateful for my dad's help in putting them on the straight and narrow.
If these types of schools can't be brought back then we should bring back National Service. These kids need to learn respect for each other and (just as importantly) for themselves.

oh ok, spoilsport... I will quietly and meekly call you a tree hugger then!!!

I expect they did it because there isn't a sufficient community centre for teens in their town with a recording studio, full drum kit and snooker table... poor little darlings.

You're right in that here we have 2 prospective 'serial killers' in the making.

But I still think a good hiding is called for anyway !!!!
