Bathing for no reason

As far as I know, Monster has never been washed. Liberty had a few baths at the breeders as part of socialisation/training. She needs another one pretty soon because she stuck her head under the water heater and managed to get something very sticky on it.

I wouldn't wash them so much but they root about on the muck heap so they stink, winnie starts to look yellow as well and mavis' s long bits get rank and get matted although I do brush them most days.

Most get bathed either when they've rolled in something stinky or just before specific events (Champs etc).

The puppy gets bathed ahead of every show atm but as we go more I'll likely only bother before specific shows as he's generally a clean dog.

I bought a Mud Mummy which has been great for cleaning mud from legs and belly.

Interesting. I was thinking of buying one to keep in the van, thinking wash before travel but no one seemed to rate them.

So interested in this question as it seems on social media that people are forever bathing their dogs. Just never bath mine. We rarely encounter anything smelly they are likely to roll in. They go in the sea a lot and coming home they go in a stream that I feel cleans the salt off.
I do groom every day , coats look shiny and healthy and never smell.
Flatcoated retrievers, by the way.
I did meet a couple of Goldens out on a walk in the week, they were quite muddy and I did wonder if mine only looked clean because she is black!!

Yes exactly, I’d just assumed it was because the “breed” pages for my dog are seriously fluffy they seem to bath and spritz every other day. Mine have lots of opportunity to get really stinky but luckily it’s really only the one who occasionally will.

No, unless absolutely necessary, they are working spanners and need the oils in their coats, I overheard a conversation in the pet shop the other day a lady wanting something to make her dogs coats less dry as she had to shampoo them everyday as she doesn't like them smelling like dogs.....WTF??

It's not like using a hose but it does the job and beats bringing a muddy dog home.

Mine gets a proper bath about once a year. She does get a warm shower on her underneath at the yard if she’s been in the mud, but that’s it. Shes a long haired German Shepherd. She takes absolutely ages to dry, so wouldn’t want to do it often, especially in the winter.

Don't usually bath, they do get hosed off if muddy - warm water - and will shampoo their bellies if the mud sticks but it usually comes off.

Scout got streptococcal dermatitis at the end of the shooting season and had to have two malesab baths. I took him upstairs to the bathroom as our dog shower room (I know, I know) has rubbish pressure.
Apart from that I don’t think they ever have. The odd session under the hose after rolling incidents and always a sloosh with hibiscrub after a days shooting but not a bath.
I feel so sorry for dogs like T’s sister who goes to the groomers monthly and comes out smelling of that months perfume. Poor dog.

Our dog gets thrown in the bath when he’s muddy for a rinse (can be every day in winter…). Only gets shampooed if he rolls in though.

Umm, my dog shower room also has rubbish pressure.
I now use it as dog food storage as it’s one of the few places Bertie hasn’t figured out how to access

Malaseb for dogs is quite hard! My old lab used to have to have his tummy done every so often. The leaving it on for 10 minutes before rinsing is such a hassle! What are you supposed to do with a bubbly dog for 10 minutes
