Batten down the hatches

The majority of horses are in on our yard tonight, apart from a few who don't like being stabled. Our fields are very open and exposed so they were all happy munching in their cosy internal stables when I left tonight.

2 trees down! Luckily they fell away from my 2 and into an empty paddock. I did find mine the wrong side of their electric fencing, but looking at where the poo was in their field I think the escape was not long before I got there rather than them running through it.

The landowner has been trying to get the preservation order lifted on a row of poplar trees for a while, so hopefully the council will agree to it now and they can come down.

Glad they are okay. What a scare though.

We dont have the winds, just getting torrential rain all day it seems :( If its really windy, I leave mine out if thats what they're used to. I know of someone nearby where wind ripped their stable roof clean off (and it was a decent built one) so I find my horses safer outside.

I was really debating whether to bring them in or leave them out as usual, wind seemed calm and I was hoping it would miss us. I put them in a field with large hedges protecting them from westward winds and hoped for the best. I woke up panicking at 3am to see the large tree swaying past my bedroom window! Woke up to no damage and calm horses *massive sigh of relief*. It was pretty violent in leicestershire during the early hours. Hope everyone else is OK.

Fingers crossed then.

I am delighted to report that, even though I woke up a few times last night and could hear the wind, we had no damage at all, except for one tub with a jasmine plant that had tipped over at an angle.
However I put the horses out at lunchtime (hay would have blown away if they'd gone out in the morning), without rugs and they got soaked about 6 and were looking very miserable and 'a bit' shivery, when we brought them in at 7 pm.
Thank goodness it looks as if the weather will have calmed down tomorrow.

Excellent news. It seems to have picked up again here... last night was pretty horrible listening to everyone's bins roll down the road (I mean don't they check the weather?) rubbish everywhere! Horses were in the exact spot I saw them night before :D completely dry and clean as whistles. Maybe they got scared stiff and got a wash and blow dry while they were at it.
