For those who turn out overnight, what are you plans for today? We have some nasty weather coming to the Midlands tonight, with 40-50mph winds, my friend who works on a construction site has just told me they are winding off the cranes as the wind is going to be horrendous.Not sure what to do with my elderly mare, she is out with another elderly mare overnight and her paddock is a bit exposed with no shelter. She has a nice thick rug to wear but still a bit worried about her running around.Thought I might turn her out for a couple of hours tonight after work and then get her in and have her out for a couple of hours in the day tomorrow and then go back to overnight tomorrow night. I know in the West and over Wales its going to be 50 - 70mph winds!What are you guys doing??.
 
I am going to stick both mine out, one is a little Dartmoor hill who already has a thick coat coming on and the other is a Dales x who I will stick a lightweight on, they have hedge shelter and will be given plenty of hay (as long as it doesn't blow away!)
their usual routine is in for four to five hours a day then out overnight anyway
 
I'm in Wales - our yard is always windy, especially in the top fields. Mine will be staying out. They're far more used to bad weather than we give them credit for.
 
Nugz will be out, much as I sure he would like to be in he is in the end stable that normally gets the brunt of all the weather and I worry that with all the strong winds over the last few years the roof might not be quite up to more battering.

Doubt he will be rugged. But he will have more hay than he'll know what to do with.
 
Both out, Bailey has had a rug on at night since Sunday as he is a very chilly pony and with the 5 hours of rain being forecast before the winds really get up I know he will just stand and shiver. In two minds about DP, we have tons of grass but the field is very exposed and he rarely wears a rug. Just can't decide whether to put a raincoat on him or not.
 
In the west, both mine are in, one of them retired TB. The temperature is dropping and the wind is picking up. Our fields are very exposed and no shelter, so I wouldn't leave a veteran out to deal with this weather. Rain in this wind will be vicious.
 
Out as per her usual routine. I don't change my routine because of the weather.

If she was already coming in at night then yes she'd be in as usual, but she's still out 24/7 so she will be out tonight as usual.
 
Mine is coming in tonight. He's on part-livery and all the horses on the yard will be in tonight....I'd be quite happy for him to stay out though...he doesn't mind the weather and he'd be rugged up.
 
Staying out in 100g no neck rugs. They've got the run of two paddocks with a choice of south facing and north facing field shelters, so they should be ok.

OH has just concreted and bolted extra anchor posts to our ancient home built wood and corrugated hay barn, it's our tattiest building and is on the list for replacement. It needs to last one more winter at least :eek:.
 
Horse is in West Sussex & he'll be in tonight as usual, but we are not expecting high winds as far as I'm aware.

I'm away in the Derbyshire Dales/Peak District with the OH in his motorhome, where there's an amber wind warning ... I hope I'm still here tomorow :D
 
It's pouring here and v windy. However it is warm and horse has access to his stable and shelters so he's staying out unrugged.
If it was colder I'd definitely be putting 50g turnout on him.

Ets. As i say this Billy is currently in the middle of the field happily eating grass. Go figure!!
 
Our pc was cancelled because there is a weather warning for here. So far, it's v wet but not windy, OH has gone out to give our three a feed and they will be out overnight. . They have rainsheets on though.

Fields v sheltered though...

We are at the top of the Pennines, 2 of ours are in their 20s and there is no shelter to speak of. We have had so much rain over the last few days that the ground is becoming water-logged, so they have been in overnight for the last two days and will be in again tonight. Fingers crossed that they can get out again at the end of the week.
 
Hmmm... difficult but I would not bring a horse in to a stable in high winds... bad experience of roof damage resulting in damaged horses...

Mine are out and unbothered.

Unfortunately, if the wind blows our stable roof off it will land in the oldies' field, with the wind in this direction. Roofs are well fastened down though.
 
I'm horse sitting and have brought everything inside, including my own. They look happy and I feel more relaxed. Too many big trees around to leave them out and very strong gusts forecast.
