Hi All,

Long time no see.;) I just thought you might like a bit of an update on me and mine as I've been busy as a busy thing and not been on here much. I'll even throw in a competition report if you like, although it was less like eventing and more like all-in wrestling thanks to Jup and Cal developing even more "personality" and being a couple of know-it-all event ponies.

Firstly, HH is now officially a Hunter, and a Fieldmaster's Hunter at that. I brokered a deal :p which resulted in me becoming the proud owner of Marty and OH becoming the lucky pilot of the Good Ship Huge Horse, soon to be seen disappearing over hedges in the Vale of Belvoir.:D Sad, I know, but I decided I'd done as much as I could with him and his showjumping was always going to let him down...square pegs, round holes and all that. So, Marty is now Marty McBaydale and being fast-tracked back into BE after languishing in his easy life for a bit too long. He had a torn muscle in his back so had been off for a while, but now it's all go go go in my quest to find if he does actually have ribs and make him look less like a county level show hunter. He's decided the only upside of being my main man is that he gets more food to sustain the level of work - woo hoo. Just to give you a break from the tedium of this report, here's HH at Aske, squeezing his bulk through a tiny space:

And Marty at Buckminster, squeezing his bulk through a tiny space with the minimum effort: ;)

Right, onto the other inmates, now affectionately called the Cheeky Boys aka Jup and Cal (or Cow, or Moo Cow, since OH misheard me when he arrived and then commented on the cow-like ears. How rude.) I've been BYEH-ing with the odd rosette and some very cute clear rounds but nothing good enough to qualify,. Then lately we have ventured into the big, bad world of BE, starting at Wolverhampton where Cal managed a 6th and Jup didn't manage anything much, other than surprising me with his xc round: so much less slug-like than last year. I've also done two 5yo classes, Buckminster and Great Witchingham, but suffice to say my two are not polished enough to be giving Pippa and William reason to watch their backs, and whoever has stolen my ability to do dressage, would you please return it, and soon!

Here are some vids from yesterday at GW:

Jup has a problem walking (loves cantering though), paying attention and generally containing his enthusiasm, hence my face like thunder at the end as it gets a bit wearing after a while::(

Hope the swap works out, sure you have done the right thing as in HH case the brain was just too far from the legs for the coloured poles!

Loving the babies looking very promising and wiating to hear how Marty develops :)

Hi :) waves welcome back if only for an update, def missed your Baydale reports.

Sure you've made the right decision for HH, and go marty, and the cheeky boys lol!!

Thanks everyone. This new forum confuses me so I've now got two threads going.....HELP!

ludi-doodi - I've certainly had a few near misses and could well have been MIA.

Was good to see you albeit briefly at Buckminster, I had to scoot off to re-tyre my lorry, so didn't have chance to say bye :( but Jup looks very much the "proper" eventer now :)

How was Grt W? Hope both boys wer eon their "best" best behaviour ;)

Lovely update - I am just puzzling over whether, now you have two Cheeky Boys of your own, that makes you in some way related to that (ex) MP Lembit Opek?:p

Look forward to seeing sMarty Pants out in anger again, say what you like about him (and you do) he's always known exactly how to keep his legs out of the way of those poles

KatB, the rest is in the other half of the update, posted separately just to see who's paying attention. Things have changed since I was last on here!

TD - ewww at thought of that, or am I the only one that finds the thought of him makes my skin creep? :o Marty looked quite excited about doing stuff but I think the novelty has started to go already. Can't blame him really, as me, the dressage saddle and sitting trot first thing on a Monday morning would be more than enough for even the most keen pony.:)

bb - I like your optimism but I have a feeling I'll have to buy my tickets to get into Burghley Friday this year. Boo.

digger2 - I'm sure HH will be happier with my OH than with me banging away trying to make him do stuff he finds so difficult.:(

kerilli - he'll be the smartest hunter out, and in his element. You'll have to have your Brave Pants on to follow OH on those days.

S_J - Funny how I'm loving showjumping now innit?

Im just gutted I dont get to have HH for smart AM dressage this winter *sulk*

I am however, so pleased that you are having some real fun and life is good. The CB's are well worth getting up in the morning and Marty did have *EVENTER* written all over his Advert when you bought him.

Again full credit to you (now watch that your head doesnt get too big ;) ) but thank you so much for helping Snoop and I with our sjing. Well more me than Snoop.
Now to get him less cheeky than your CB's?
I do think we shoudl have a trade off.... Snoop for a cheeky pony? I can do the dressage you have Snoop for more restling out of the startbox :D

Well done hon, you deserve it.

Kermit Opek, that has a certain (very odd) ring to it.:p

BBs, as you can see from the sj vids, wrestling is my specialist subject.;) And I will soon become Resident Expert on Cheeky Ponies and should really start an agony aunt column:

You: "What should I do with my very cheeky pony?"

Me: "Try to wrestle it to the ground, whilst pulling faces and appearing to onlookers to be completely ineffectual.":D

I dont think i could pull it off :D

Glad all is very well in the Baydale boarding school :D And it's nice to know the Cheeky boys are keeping you on your toes. Gertie's gorgeous too. Do you not do not so good looking ones? :D

Good to see an update from you and to hear more about the CBs. Saw you at Gt Witch yesterday in the SJ warm-up - was dashing from a to b so didn't have time for a natter - but also heard some XC comments (all good :)).
Sad to hear HH has changed jobs but probs for the best - I'm sure he'll have a ball.

Hello long time no hear, have so missed your reports:)

Another :( to HH changing jobs, but I am sure he will make a fab hunter, for your very lucky OH, and Marty seems like a very fair trade in:)

Cal and Jups are looking good, for some reason though this pc is saying no to letting me watch the pony wrestling video:confused:

Good luck with the BYEH classes, and let us know how you get on!

PS your foal is stunning, its making me broody, would love to have another baby (horse!) around:)

Wishing HH all the best in his domination of the hugest hedges in Leicestershire (or Lincolnshire). The best of grub all winter, and no need to do dressage or to jump over coloured poles. Can just imagine what he is saying to the rest of the BD pack.

Hope the boys all go fab for you this summer.

Fiona

Thanks for the kind comments everyone. See how rusty I am that I can't even remember how to do simple HHO stuff.:o You should be able to see the pony-wrestling vids here:

teapot - if you saw what our hunters look like now you'd understand what a breath of fresh air gorgeous Gertie is.;)

Rosiefan, sorry I didn't see you but I'm sure I will soon. I can't wait to see Frodo in the flesh.:)

alwaysbroke - I'll keep you posted on progress. Will you be at Shelford as big fat Marty will be there, and blue and white Ralph?

Fiona - HH is super smug as all the hunters are back in work while he's having a holiday. OH has yet to learn how to ride him, but for hunting I doubt that'll be too much trouble: point, kick and sit tight.:D

Glad to hear all is well, I'd been missing your reports. The boys both look well and fingers crossed for the Burghley qualification :).

ETA: Found the first post, Gertie looks lovely and Pingy Pony may be up for weight watchers at Richmond too :o!

Got as far as "Kermit Opek" and had to stop, lest I hurt myself. :D

My Cal has, um, grown . . . ;) The boys look great though, and very grown up.

I'm sure HH - and OH - will thank you for the job change, Marty perhaps not as much. :)

jumptoit - it seems that all our horses need to go to Weightwatchers, there's not an anorexic amongst them, just a load of big-boned "I don't eat much, honestly I don't" porkers.

TS - I do think Cal has grown upwards and outwards...he was supposed to be my new "small horse" phase, and now he's almost Jup sized. Marty does keep looking longingly towards HH's field, ever hopeful that he might get to eat grass 24/7.:)

Lol, I can't keep weight on one of mine but Pingy Pony sees grass only from a distance and is still, most definitely, not slim, or in any danger of being for that matter!

Ah will do my best to get over to Shelford would be good to see the boys and you, may not make it though as it is Mini D_Ks birthday on the 18th and Fairycakes gets her A level results on the 19th! One day I will find a minute for myself, and perhaps get out on H again, then again if you fancy another youngster the offer is still there:D

*waves* - loved seeing the boys in the flesh (Jup lapped up some pre-SJ petting, big girl :D), they look really well and increasingly established - Top Ponies :). GW was strong (and not just because I was crocodile-hunting :(), I'd be super pleased with 5yos jumping DCs there! Clearly the dressage judge needed a loo break / sunglasses / was suffering some other source of irritation leading to undeserved marking.. B).....

She lives........hurrah. We've missed you:p Glad to hear HH is going to be a real 'proper' hunter in the best hunting county in the world. He will be superb & wont miss having to contort himself over silly fally downy poles.

Glad the young 'uns are doing their bit & certainly keeping you on your toes. They are a lovely bunch.

I think the dressage divaness tends to disappear with riding too many youngsters where its simply a challenge to go in a straight line at the correct pace.

Keep in touch:)

alwaysbroke - I'd put all those children up for adoption if I were you.;) And you know full well that you're teasing me with the offer of another youngster, or are you keen to shred my nerves even more than they are already?:p

deskbound - whilst it was great to meet you, I am a little gutted that I didn't get to meet The Mite, even if she was on the naughty step.:( I won't comment on the dressage judging as with my luck - or unless he is actually stalking me - I will be in front of him again soon. (Forgot to mention that you missed out on Ma Baydale's cake but panic not, meardsall_millie and I had your share.:D)

Joss - yep, alive and well and surrounded by fat hunters.:o HH is the slimmest, unbelievably. I'm glad you approve of my little 'uns, praise indeed when you have such nice horses. I think I've now got to move on from just being happy that they stay underneath you in more or less the right pace, haven't I? Did you hear I had a "chat" with Daddy Joss on Sunday?;)

Sorry, for anyone who thinks I fell asleep halfway through posting the original, here's the rest:

Ooh err, this new forum is confusing, or I pressed the wrong button as there's more to come:

Cal doing dressage with his new-found don't-you-tell-me-what-to-do personality:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFBFXMdvj_8

Then Jup jumping. Not my best idea to jump him in a nathe when he obviously knows better, and of course can cope with the uphill and downhill arena. I almost succeeded in wrestling him to the ground though.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-nzOo-ha74

Then Cal jumping, again he knows he knows better and doesn't see why a) listening to me should take priority and b) getting your legs in the right order matters. Watch out for me hilariously nearly getting jumped off at fence 5 (how embarrassing!):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_kEMBL0D3M

Both were awesome cross country as it was the stiffest PN I've ever seen with ditches aplenty and masses of questions, so I was over the moon with the pair of them. Both got some time penalties but I went quite fast enough thanks, and interestingly Jup found his focus and barely had time to play the Left/Right Game, other than at both road crossings where the dayglo-wearing martial gave him a shock.

So, a quiet month for them now while they learn dressage, manners and do another couple of BYEH before reappearing at Richmond.

Other news is we've had a baby! Well, when I say "we" I mean Grace, our broodmare has. So here's Gertie, by Grafenstolz:

http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pi...2&id=578103634

She has us all wrapped round her little hoof/finger and we stand there, mouths agape as she floats around the field. Dressage horse anybody?

Also, it seems my pupils are hitting the big time, and I've finally been able to persuade them that my incessant bellowing is worthwhile. Ralph, The Blue and White Pony, and his owner have been placed at County Level workers, won dressage with 69% and then won at the Burghley PC ODE yesterday with a double clear. It's my turn next *stamps feet* so we're doing Shelford PN in August. Another has just qualified for HOYS in the SFAS workers; my PC kids - if one can call teenagers "kids" any more - are all out there BEing and PCing and bringing home the rosettes, and you'll have already seen that BBs has persuaded Snoop that hooning around at 90mph getting long spots into every showjump is NOT the way to do it.

Life is good, in fact life is very good.

Tea and Ma Baydale's scones if you've made it this far.
