Then the second time he went, even though his front feet weren't on terra firma.

Thankfully Lau8a stopped clicking at this point - I don't think anyone would have wanted to see those pics - and went to rescue him, mainly to get his legs unwrapped from his reins when he got up the other side of the fence.

Lovely SJ pictures, he is looking great.

XC ones are a bit scary, poor thing, doesn't look a very inviting fence. Glad you are both relatively ok.

Im afraid i cant look at the trakener ones, as otherwise I think i would be scared of them! I saw the one with the horse going underneath one in scotland somewhere - very hard not to think about!!
 
There's no 'ish' about that oxer it's BIG!!! Lovely SJ photos, such a shame about the fall but it sounds like the ground was a bit iffy. I hope you aren't feeling too bad and are on the road to recovery and i'm sure H will be fine, good ground and a few smaller trakehners and there won't be any problems

I don't blame him for not wanting to jump that trakehner - it looks horrible. I hope he's not too sore after his fall and you're both back eventing soon.
 
Oh crikey!!!

So glad you are (sort of) still in one piece after that.

Looking at the ground in the SJ pics, not sure if either of mine would jump out of that (sort of deep crumbly peat??), so really keeping fingers crossed for you that H was having a bad day because of the ground, and will come back raring to go as soon as you're back on your feet again.

Yoiks, I can't really imagine him jumping from that. Really looks like he's stopped. Any roads he hasn't even got his shoulders high enough to jump, let alone his knees

His SJ ones are lovely. Can't believe how wrong he got it, but to then try again with no ground.... he really didn't want to let you down. Silly but very good boy. Hope his vet/chiro visits go well x

ETA forgot it was in that dip...do you think he meant to go the second time? Or was it him trying to stay upright? Well sat the first time!!
 
That last pic makes me feel quite ill! Hector looks remarkably unconcerned and cool with the fact his feet are hovering over a large hole whereas I am sure you were probably thinking "unmentionables"! Glad you are both ok. He looks beautiful in the SJ ring if thats any consolation!
 
The showjumping ones look so great, lovely pics, and he's jumping out of his skin. Eww at the trak ones, he really wasn't happy about it, was he?

so unlike him, something must have been very wrong.
i reckon you really have to try to put it out of your mind, think about how brilliant he usually is, let him have a few nice fun runs round Novices, go on from there. xx
 
It was a cracking SJing round - they were lots of poles going down especially the 2nd fence.

MFH_09, he's not being too wimpy, but was sore enough that the chiro could only do his neck and shoulders today and will come back and do the rest later in the week.

friendly_horses I think as it was in a bit of a dip he slid into it the first time, then the second time momentum took him over it even though his feet weren't on the ground.

I don't think that's his unconcerned look i_l_d, more of an "eek" face.

I'm definitely up for going on from there K, once mine and his creaky bodies are feeling better. It was so out of character.

Holy sh1t N, if there is one thing I don't like it's a very gappy trakhener and that was just hideous, poor poor poor H, with both front feet dangling into nothing, it's no wonder he tried his heart out to get out of it

The head shot of him is simply stunning and he looks so well and jumping HUGE, such a bl00dy shame that had to happen.

, I suppose it comes from knowing your horse, I was misled by the pricked ears. I get the ill-tempered mare look when we're in deep trouble- ears flat back and the pinched nose (I'm sure that muscle has a name)!
Here's hoping we don't see Hector's eek face for a long while.
 
Oh N, what a shame he tried to go from there. I am sure a few fun novice or even PN runs and he will be back to his old self in no time. I was once told by a pro that it is better for them to have a crash up to intermediate level than it is for them never to have a blip then to fall at advanced and above because when it happens then, the bottom totally falls out of their world and many never have the guts to give it a go again, whereas at the lower levels they can think, regroup and try again for you without being nearly so shaken by it. I hope Hector falls into that category, and I am sure he will.
 
It's not very nice, is it Flo? He's done worse though, but maybe this one just caught him out. Thanks for your good wishes.

I_l_d don't worry, I've had him since he was 3 so I know all his facial expressions. His worried "sideways ears" is the normal one you see, but I think that was his "holy s**t, I didn't mean that to happen" face, which is a new one.

Well I am sure it is scant consolation right now, but I was told that after B hit the fence and I hit the deck very hard at Goring Novice and I was ever so slightly worried about the next event 10 days later. In fact the XC steward at Monmouth actually asked if I was ok because I was so so green with fear.

However B, who had never hit a fence, never decanted me at a comp, and who really hit the fence solidly and from the video was exceptionally lucky not to turn us both over, and who had been rather on the arrogant side XC in the past, came out fine and raring to go, and since then has been much much easier to ride XC in terms of obeying rider direction (I think 'orders' would be a step too far for him to concede to!) - much like ElleJS' description of Connie after her fall.

I have all my pinkies and toes crossed, and Hen has his legs, eyes and tail crossed, that Hector does fall into this category.

Given his jockey and the trust I reckon most horses have in her, I would say it's very likely.

That really is the most horrid trak I know, at least locally, it's just so gappy.

I first saw it being used in a 3'6" PC open. Don't think I saw it being jumped though!

I really felt sorry for the poor person on the grey that followed you. They didn't manage to stop her until she was nearly by you, she had to circle for all the time and then jump the fence you had just been lying under. Jumped it though. Bet she kicked hard.
 
Glad you survived to tell the tale, albeit a bit broken!
Fingers crossed he'll be fine. My big horse had a fall at Withington a couple of years ago in his 2nd advanced, i was really worried about him as he gets desperately upset if he hits a show jump let alone a xc fence. At his next event he never thought twice, felt just the same as always, I have to admit to being very relieved!!
