Baydale's Birthday - Another Bad Day

Oh N, like you needed this right now

Even I can't quite manage the glass of wine right now but will toast him tonight. Knowing what a great life he had and even knowing you made the right decision doesn't really help at first, I know firsthand. But both are true...

As far as the other is concerned, I shall do my best to forget all about it - after all, I seem to be doing pretty well so far

I agree with MdS, you have certainly had your three now so let's hope it's onwards and upwards from here. x

What a lovely horse and its so lovely he was being hunted and enjoyed right to the end.

Its a bit early in the morning for a drink but I'll have one tonight in his memory.

Oh Baydale--poor you. It must seem like endless bad news at the moment.
Things WILL get better especially with all the H&H vibes coming your way.
Take care.

Poor you Baydale, 2009 hasnt been kind to you so far.

A glass raised to William what a stunning chap he was, and hope you had as happy a birthday as possible considering the circumstances.

So very sorry to hear your news, L updated me last night. Too late for the gin then, but he'll get a good one tonight! The fact that he was still out leaping ditches and keeping "his" people in their place is testament to how well he was loved, respected and looked after - Well Done, you!

Thanks for your kind words everyone. It's a bit subdued at home today, and I feel a bit flat (sorry, unintentional pun there).

henryhorn - he didn't do too badly, did he?

Winning the £1000 advanced class at Belton, my local, stood out as he was in great company that day. Peach Schnapps and frozen fruit sounds interesting, I might have to try a toast with that combination.

friendly_horses, he was the original all-rounder: won 5&6yo Denes Eventing Champs, 3rd H&H Novice Rider Champs, won at Foxhunter level BSJA, qualified for National Champs dressage, won Dressage and Jumping finals (Stora Timber, as it was then) - not many horses could turn their hand to so many things that successfully (I'll stop bragging now, as it makes my other horses feel inadequate).

SSM - so much for all Cleveland Bays being stubborn, pig-headed things that no-one cares for eh?

He should have been their poster boy.

I am so sorry to hear this. Years and years ago I saw a tv clip about you two. I think it was for Badminton, but watching that clip I fell in love with William (I was only young but I think it was the way you spoke so highly of him) You didn't do too well in that competition but after that I always looked for his name. I remember when I first saw your names on the forum and I got really excited as it was William Hill's rider.

Wow, I remember him! I read about him in Eventing magazine and got excited when I saw him with his groom in front of Badminton House. I got to pat him a few times! He was such a lovely horse. I'm so sorry for your loss xx

Bless him, he had his own little fan club in those days, then another fan club later in life when he was OH's hunter. That "groom" at Badminton would have been one of my friends welshchick.

I had to pull up there as his immune system was shot to pieces after he had strangles, but we only found that out about a year later, hence why I didn't do any more three days.

I have only just seen your post. What a super horse I know just how you feel. When a horse has done his best for you - I think it important to be there for him at the end and to see him peacefully on his way. Did you look for him for days afterwards I know I did.

Glass raised.
