At last, I have something worth posting, and about time too, I hear you say.:D I bowed out of the pressure of 5yo classes and BYEH a few weeks ago, partly prompted by Jupiter being soooo naughty at Ryedale  and the feelings of inadequacy I've been having in the dressage department when faced with all the flashy 5yo's that look like they went to the Ruth Edge School of Dressage. :(

Anyway, off we trotted to Richmond - OH as trucker/groom, me as snoozer/rider and Ma and Pa Baydale met us there as Catering and Camera Crew. Cal was on first and, having been particularly feisty the day before (he's had 3 quiet weeks, of eating and sleeping mainly), I wasn't convinced he would be much cop. Bless him, he put his sweet face on, tried really hard and I was greeted with a smiley judge in my final halt, although you never know if that's a sympathetic smile, do you? ;)

Other than the comedy halt at the end and refusing to canter all the way to X, it wasn't too bad. The judge did say what a super chap he was, just needing more self-carriage for higher marks, so that restored some faith in dressage judging, as did the mark of 34.

Next on was Jup, feeling good in the warm-up although I did giggle when I noted his crest wobbling, then instantly took the positive from that as he must have been soft in the neck for it to wobble... We then had a moment when a mother, child and two killer green chairs all moved simultaneously, and things never got better really. He just struggles with doing as he's told, it's as simple as that. I had a face like thunder the whole way through and you can see me wrestling with him - not a good look. I thought I'd get slated for that but I think I got the sympathy vote, as the judge wrote "talented horse with a lot of potential...not through to contact...but lots to like" and gave us 36, but 5 for submission.:o Can't see much that I like here:

A quick change and OH stood with Jup out of sight, sadly not out of earshot though as he shrieked continuously while I warmed up Cal to jump. I have to say that after a little blip in a lesson the other day - Stunt Rider for Hire, can clear fences without a horse:eek: - I was heartened by Cal's round, other than the inability to canter on the correct leg at crucial moments, obviously.

Here are some from the pro photographer (click right arrow):

A flying change onto Jup then, with a tussle while a helpful person tightened his noseband up for me (I swear her feet left the ground a couple of times:o), and in he went, with his I-Know-What-I'm-Doing-And-I-Like-Doing-It-Fast head on, a la Ryedale BYEH. He clouted the blue and yellow upright, but it stayed up, but safe to stay it wouldn't be one of our most stylish rounds:

Back to the lorry and straight onto Cal for cross country, no vid of this but he was cute as anything, really focused and on the ball about it all. I didn't rush but he keeps such a nice rhythm it's almost relaxing to ride him.:) Here are the pro photos, then some of Pa Baydale's:

Then onto the cheekiest of the Cheeky Boys, and I knew I'd need oxygen by the time I'd finished my round. I swear we didn't get more than two strides in a straight line the whole way round, and I was sure I was going to have an airbag moment between 1 and 2 when he spottted the golf buggy monster. Annoyingly he is fab when he gets to the fence, but there were a few wacky lines/angles and a couple of people nearly got wiped out between the corner at 8 and the house at 9 (apologies for shrieking at you, but you were right in front of it and believe me, you don't want to get hit by something that fat at speed...). I hear the commentator commented on how vocal I was but sometimes needs must.:o

Here's the evidence of the messy round:

Note the standard Jup-riding grimace throughout.;)

I'd no idea how I was time-wise, as loads were getting too fast penalties, but I certainly wasn't hammering round; Jup may well have done twice the distance with his ducking and diving, but that's not my fault!

After washing off etc and while Ma Baydale was feeding us, Pa Baydale morphed into Scoreboard Man, camping out there until he was fairly confident that he could tell me I'd get a rosette.:D Even better, it turned out that I got two! In the spirit of teamwork and solidarity, the Cheeky Boys had decided that they were both equally good - although I'd beg to differ:mad: - and both were 6th.:D Jupiter won me some vouchers for a tack shop (draw reins perhaps?;)) and Cal won a dressage saddlecloth, how apt.

Tea and Ma Baydale's coffee cake if you've got this far, the coconut cake has gone and I'm certainly not sharing the chocolate crispie cake - not unless you say something really nice and really creep to me.:D:rolleyes: Oops, nearly forgot to say that it was great to meet some of the Northern Posse: DarkHorseB (who is so nice and deserved to beat me:p;)), soupdragon, charlimouse and jumptoit (I want your pony:)).

Yay clever boys, even if Jup tried to convince you he wasn't that clever.

Oh & I just snorted out loud at "you don't want to get hit by something that fat at speed...). "

Agreed, DarkhorseB is lovely, 1st time I met her she helped me round up stupid lemming pony in Auchinleck's HUGE lorry park! :o

I love the last sj shot of your round on Jup where you are clutching your chest! sums up the excitement of the round I think! ;)

Cal looks mega but you can keep the big bouncy bolshy one he looks like a handful to wagon about so maximum respect to you for wagoning him into 6th :)

can't see the vid or fb pics at work but the others are lovely, and it's always nice to see some green on the xc course! ;) :)

Wow, bringing home 2 rosettes is just showing off you know! ;) Well done the Cheeky Boys and Baydale. :D I'm sure Jup was just making sure you didn't pick up too-fast time pens by adding in some squiggles on the way round the XC, what a clever pony! ;)

that did make me giggle :D

glad to hear you had a happy trip up north and both boys did prove themselves despite what you think ;)

I think Cal's Dressage judge is my dressage trainier but might be wrong - was it a lady in a VW polo?

I've missed your reports ;) :p Both looking great, but I'd rather steal Cal than Jup at the moment, if it's ok with you ;) I have more than enough ducking and diving from one bright bay thing, without having a matching pair :p ;)

It was the look of horror on their faces as I thundered towards them; admittedly they had twice as much time as they thought to run for cover, but just didn't quite know which way to go as we were left/right-ing on the approach.:o

PMSL, I can imagine!

I think the chest-clutching was me correcting a tie malfunction, but I am quite sore after the other fall I had too, so it could have been that (yep, I've been in dire need of velcro breeches and parachute pants in the last week).:o

Clever? I'll give him clever...;) His school report would definitely read "could try harder".;)

I think it was a bright blue polo.Is it Pat W? If so, tell her I will put her on my Favourites List for being encouraging and not getting stuck on sixes.:)

Well done, great report as always, Cal looks really sweet, lovely pop in him! Jup looks like he was .....er......having fun?!! The gimacing face looks familar.......i can totally sympathise, i get the same sometimes when my big stoopid irish 'orse takes hold!! ;-)) Nice to have some goodies, have you got to go miles to spend the tack shop vouchers now?!

Fab result! What clever boys they are :D I take my hat off to you holding Jup together XC! They're both looking much more established and very handsome and shiney :D

That would be a wise choice if you were going to sneak round to ours in the middle of the night, although after the incident with the tramp I probably wouldn't recommend it.

Jup is always having fun! I wouldn't mind him taking hold if it was in a straight line. The tack shop is in Northallerton where my parents live, so a good excuse for a visit and a shopping trip.:D

Thanks Hattikins, I've got a long way to go before I can keep up with you though.;) I thought it was wise to put Jup in the nathe fulmer xc as he was gobby showjumping in the NS snaffle - in hindsight it wasn't such a great idea.

looking really nice, super rhythm in the sj rounds, great stuff.
really love the xc photos where you're looking one way, and in both pics the bay boys are looking in a totally different direction, gotta love young horses!
great result, matching rosettes so they didn't get jealous of each other, very clever.

Thanks K. That was the fence before the water and my cunning plan (tongue firmly in cheek;)) was to jump it straight then turn, so they wouldn't spot the water too soon. I needn't have bothered as both cantered through beautifully however forewarned is forearmed, especially with 5yo's.

Yes it was Pat W judging Cal's class - soupdragon had her too and you could read her siggy unlike my one!

That is how reports should be done with all the pics and vids. Sadly I don't yet have an entourage and when I can do Gamebird can vouch the pics are rather special ;):p So mine are just plain boring.

Lovely to meet you and your boys are both fabulous. Last time you posted vids I decided I liked Cal best but now I think naughty Jup has swayed me - fickle I am ;):D

About time we got to hear what the cheeky boys have been up to - great result(s). What was all that about being fed up with the journey? Think you and the boys have arrived :)
I know you all only do it for fun - as does Rosie <cough> - but the odd rosette doesn't go amiss and tangible prizes are an added bonus :p ;)

Yes, I had same dressage judge - very nice comments and one of our best score so very happy!

This is why I don't do reports - billy no mates (or maybe it's because my 'luxurious' farm towing vehicle only has 2 seats and DHB is usually sitting in the other one!). You definetely need an entourage to get a decent report together.

Good to meet you too and well done on your 2 prizes!

I love your reports :) :) Jup does make those fences look teeny tiny doesnt he?!?!

I know what you mean about smiling judges.....more often than not i note judges laughing during my tests and i never quite know how to take it.....could mean so many things and not many of them good!!

Super result though and you are clearly doing a fab job with them both. :) :)
