Bbc 1 breakfast SJ

When the presenter riding the horse panicked and then fell off I laughed a lot

But he was ok

Good job he did not fall onto his front because that camera would have caused injury !!
 
Good to see it getting some coverage, and I did chuckle at him falling off, but you would have thought they would have put a body protector on him for starters (insurance?) , and maybe told him to grab the neckstrap if he got unbalanced?
Loved the classic "the more unbalanced you get, the higher your hands go" behaviour though. My OH had a wry smile at that. He's been there a few times.

I've seen him do quite a bit of horsey stuff before. maybe he'll get the hang of it eventually. He's certainly game, bless him.
I bet he was black and blue after :D

I did feel sorry for the presenter, the way he was saying please please to the horse as it took off with him, horrible feeling but I don't usually say please but something a bit stronger! Apparently he rides polo ponies and he was saying how completely different this horse was.

Mike Bushell did one of these items on carriage driving last year, he drove Boyd Exell's team through a water obstacle.:eek::cool: I think Rara007 was involved too.
I admire him for having a go.

Did anyone else think it was a staged fall by a competent rider? Most novices slump forward when a horse takes off unexpecedly (if they don't fall at the first unexpected movement) and sideways, they don't situp and lean back. RI's all over the country try to get beginners to sit up and lean back!!.
 
It looked like he threw himself off! He sat fairly well when the horse spooked, heels down, sitting back and then he just sort of 'fell' but if you re-watch it, he definitely leaned outwards and over the horse's side!!

My mum has just phoned to tell me about this but I can't find it on the link alliersv1 has posted & I'm desperate to see it :D

Can anyone tell me the name of the horse or the presenter or even what the programme was called please so I can try and search for it. I've put showjumping into the search facility on bbc iPlayer and it doesn't bring it up.

Unfortunately it was a "live" link so it finished when the programme ended.
The programme was BBC breakfast and the presenter was Mike Bushell. It was a skit with Ben Maher :)

Honestly, I think he bailed b/c the horse took off and he (and it) panicked. Poor Ben Maher was in stitches though . . . gave Bushell a consoling hug but couldn't stop laughing . . . and the two boxers made it even funnier. Good old Mike Bushell is very game - I do like him.

That's brilliant! Love Bens reaction too - and the two dogs piling in to lick him to death are priceless.
 
Sorry for being a bit behind the times, but I thought it was a ridiculous thing to do- put a total novice on a showjumper and expect him to be safe? Mike, by his own admission hasn't even mastered rising trot. He did once ride a polo pony for a similar article, and even then was lucky to get away with it. He is no bigger than sixpence and that grey was a good size - it was a long way down and he could easily have been thrown into the wall (that hurts, I've done it myself). They made light of it but if your local riding school pulled a stunt like that they'd be sued, and for once in my life, I would say, rightly so.
