Probably a real dumb question, but it's not clear on the BD website. I have bought some tickets, so I can compete in some Prelims without paying to join as a full BD Member. I have registered myself (and horse) as Associate Members.

So, do I pay the entry fee AND the BD ticket ?

if you only want to do prelims and are happy in the gold section, then you don't need a class ticket, just your associate registration.
Not sure whether the fact you also have a ticket allows you to pick a different section - does it say on the ticket? if not, you might want to phone BD to check because I can't see any advantage of using one for Prelim if not.

I must have completely misunderstood. I thought I had to buy a ticket ? I don't remember reading anything about Gold sections ?

BigRed - all BD classes have three sections that you can enter if you're a full member. Bronze is for people new to a level, Silver is for more experienced combinations at that level and Gold is for people who compete at a far higher level but who are dropping back down (e.g. a GP rider taking a young horse through the rankings).

Prelim Gold is a slight exception as Associate members on Associate horses can compete in Prelim Gold without getting full membership, and without a class ticket. So you can enter Prelim classes in the Gold section using your current membership and you don't need a class ticket. Prelim Gold level has no championships to qualify for.

As per Milliepops, I'm not sure if having a ticket would allow you to enter the Bronze or Silver sections. It does allow you to compete at Novice and above though. Either way you need to pay your entry fee.
