So sorry to read this - run free beautiful Milo. Look after yourself IM very, very tough thing to through, most especially with a youngster but IMO a brave and correct decision for Milo if not for you. :(

I've finally stopped sobbing enough to write this. Yesterday my lovely, funny friend was set free. He went surrounded by people who loved him, after a morning spent eating his favourite treats. After a week of terrible weather, the sun was shining and he grazed under a beautiful apple tree surrounded by autumn leaves.

Making this decision was the worst thing in the world, but after a year and a half of trying to get him right, I knew in my heart it was time. For both of us. It's possible he had other things going on, but at 6 years old and with buggered hocks, I decided he deserved more than a lifetime of treatments (which he feared more than anything) and pain. Speaking to the vet reassured me of my decision.

We had two years together. We had amazing rides and we had rides where I was genuinely glad to have made it home alive... He was a special pony. He was endless laughter, mischief, and kindness. He was an amazing talent, and I'm so sad he was dealt a cruel hand.

I wish things could have been different - I wish I could have retired him in the knowledge he would be pain free and keep himself happy and safe, but I knew that would never be the reality.

Go and make trouble up there my lovely boy.

So sorry for you loss. Whilst having been dealt a cruel hand in life, he also lucked out big time in having such a loving, caring and selfless owner such as you, who could cause themself so much pain in order to set him free of his. Hope you can find some comfort in your memories and in the knowledge you have done your best for him x

So sorry to hear this. It’s so sad to have to make that decision for a horse so young, but you’ve saved him from having a lifetime in chronic pain, which is a very brave decision. Hope you’re coping.
