Hmmm, so are the new dressage tests replacing the existing ones or are they in addition to the existing ones? I don't think it'll make much difference if there aren't many tests, I only did novice 125 all last season, sigh.
Can't believe the selling point is that the tests are shorter. It's hardly value for money is it. Also since when did organisers manage to squeeze more people in because of shorter tests. Surely it's the jumping bits that decide on the number of entries as everyone shares the same course. Muppets.
Really, really unhappy with the downgrading rule. It even annoyed me enough to log on to the BE forum and moan. I suggest everyone else who is unhappy with the rule change does the same.
think I'm in the minority here, I like both the downgrading rule, and the new dressage tests.
I have my old eventer with one point out on loan at my yard, she will now be able to do intro with him, as last season he did not event and the season before no points, which will be great to see. Open intros around here are no exhistant, and she is not confident enougth to go prenovice.
He will not win as they are a new combination, so it still makes the class competiitve.
The new dressage tests particularly in novice look interesting but very do able, the only problem here is I will not be able to do them for a while as I have a complete newbie and beginner in the form of the young chap and so novice seems a long way ahead!
I believe someone at BE spends all day on HHO,and then thinks "what ELSE can we develop to completely tick off and demoralise these Amateurs, who have ideas above their stations by seriously believing they have the talent and determination to compete with our Professionals?"
Seriously, though, this does seem lkike a classic case where some consultation would have gone a long way. The down-grading issue directly affects people at the lower levels of the sport so it would have made sense to canvas views: I didn't see any surveys etc on this, did anyone else? A variety of views have been expressed on this thread, as well as some clever ideas for some alternative ways of introducing down-grading. It would all have been useful input to BE BEFORE they made their decision, wouldn't it? We do need some mechanism for more direct communication between BE and their membership, I strongly believe. Bring on S_C's Rider Organisation? Clearly ERA are no use for this: if they had the opportunity to give their input they themselves have been woeful in consulting those they claim to represent.
I can't believe the membership fees! And you can't register a horse if it has no name on it's passport! Anyone else get a letter this morning about this? Registering online will be easier though?
I don't have time to comment in depth but I am FUMING! I actually cannot be coherent about this it has made me so cross - the BE board should stop thinking they are in an ivory tower and realise that there is the distinct possibility that someone (and no, not me - I certainly do not know enough of the right people to make that happen!) might just motivate enough people that a vote of no-confidence could come their way.....
They really do treat us like children who cannot be trusted to make an informed choice, and they simply do not care about making the effort to engage riders so that riders will play a part in this decision making.
Frankly I have no faith that they are suitable to decide the future of our sport, they clearly do not give a flying fig what the people who keep them in a job think!
Nope fortunately not, just initial registrations, my 11 year old has bay colt but he will require a name as he'll be being registered for the first tim.
I think the downgrading is a great idea. I have an old advanced horse but it doesnt mean we clean up - quite the opposite. As he has got older his dressage has got worse and worse. He anticipates the cross country and is wild! We are usually last after dressage. My sister competes at intro and has always had to go HC. Now she will be able to compete. She does well where times are hard to get and would have been 7th once if she had been competetive. Bearing in mind I pay nearly 3 times an intro horse to register him in the first place, its nice to think we may now have a chance. Im not a pot hunter.
oh come on guys, the horses allowed to be downgraded have to have not earnt points in the current or 2 previous seasons, so either they've been out of the game for 3 seasons or they have been rubbish at it for the last 3 seasons, so no for e.g ballinacoola could not have competed at intro..
Seems a bit ridiculous to be complaining that you'll be competing against badminton winners etc when its highly unlikely.
Also the horse can only be downgraded once in a lifetime.
JMO, making a mountain out of a molehill! I would have no problem with downgrading here, we don't even have open competitions!
The dressage tests, well, I have no idea if EI will be using them, but we'll all just learn to ride them like the last lot

I think Parkmore Ed may have to downgrade at some stage

Now parkmore ed is a a great example of how the rider effects the way the horse goes. Take nothing away from philip atkins I am sure he is a very talented rider, however there are not many as good as william foxpitt, and the results with william make him look a different horse, when compared with those with philip as the jockey.
