I have a 17yyear old cob on loan. He was very unfit and had had a year off recovering from an horendous injury. He came with a stronger headcollar which I think was a be nice. As he was as good as gold when he first came here in September, I sent the headcollar back. Once a week, he does RDA, which involves him being loaded on to a lorry. He was as good as gold at first, but got more and more stubborn(I think because the others squealed at him) The Leader put a be nice on him and, apart from an initial cobby stubbornness, he goes straight in. I am also finding him difficult to pull away from grass etc, as he is a pig! So, should I get one and from where? And, how do you use it? Another point, his owner told me NEVER to tie him up in the stronger headcollar. The Leader called that a load of b......s. All five horses are loaded and tied up with these headcollars. Opinions please.
Another question- I realise I am an old fart, but I am having great difficulty understanding some of your initials. I understand PTS BTW OH IMO etc but LOL has me defeated. Someone said it means lots of love but, if that is the case it makes no sense in some of the posts! Be kind to someone born before mobiles !

no you should never tie horses up in these halters as if the horse pulls back it will tighten and tighten and not release, would be very sore for the horse and cause a lot of panic i should think so you are right. LOL means lots of laughs, dont worry it took me ages to work that one out too, but then im an old fart too/

Derby House sell Be nice halters we use one on our 14.1 tank.

Dually halter works for my big thug!!
Can pull him up from grass easily on the schooling ring at the side. Can also be used as a normal headcollar with the ring underneath.
I did'nt think you were supposed to tie up with a be- nice

I personally prefer Dually headcollars as you have the ring on boths sides enabling you to lead from both sides and also the ring at the back like a normal headcollar to tie up with. I had a dually for my very strong 14.2hh about 8 years ago and it worked a treat. My friend now use's one on her daughters pony that has been having Parelli work done with him and she is now even able to potter around the school in one with two leadropes. I think Robinsons had the Dually in their sale, if not Ebay is always worth a look, you can sometimes pick up a second hand one. Hope this helps?
Oh by the way LOL - Lots of laughs!

You can get Dually headcollars from the Intelligent Horsemanship website or search for Kelly Marks, these headcollars can be used as a normal headcollar or you can attach your rope or lunge line to the bit that goes across the nose and that works on pressure but you must never tie up using the nose part just the normal part under the chin. I have a dually for my youngster and can recommend highly.
I have to say the abbreviations completely confuse me too!!

Personally i've never found 'be nice' headcollars that effective, but have never tried a dually. i much prefer a stallion chain if it's that bad. In your situation though, might it be better to lead and load in a bridle/headslip? Because you could then have a normal headcollar to tie him up with and remove the headstall after loading/when tied up?
