OMG we survived but I was shaking till the next morning, have been on a high since I jumped off my pony. What a star she is, I love her lots & lots & lots because she looked after me and basically I pointed she jumped and I only pointed cos I was being shouted at by Richard Carruthers our trainer.

Bearing in mind that we started doing XC comps last year and i'm a novice and that Fern has only ever jumped with me as i've had her since she was 3 1/2 years old and Fern is my 1st horse. I would have to say that i'm feeling very proud. Not so much proud of me but proud of Fern. She's soooo brave, up for anything  crazy mare. I think she thinks she's 16.2hh as again we were smallest in the class (14.3hh) but she's there doing it without a thought about how big the jumps were. lol

I was quite nervous, jumped the warm up jumps whilst waiting for Richard and Fern was ermmm FULL OF IT  It was quite embarrasing as the breaks weren't working. once we got working we actually got some lovely steady canter strides before each jump.

Anyway i'll shut up and show you the pictures.
Little bit close to this one.

Can't wait for the XC comp at the weekend now. I'm feeling rather confident

I agree, friendly_horses! x

Hi, Fab-Fern

You've jumped some BIG fences on your pony. And some great pics! And you had her since she was 3! Hey, what a great job you've done, producing such a great, bold, nice happy horse!

Just to help you a bit more, i'd like to see your stirrups up a couple of holes, look up always, + legs forward! Richard's an excellent trainer, suspect he's already said this!

I've twice done a Lucinda Green clinic ..

(at Weetwood Grange, just up the road from Kelsall, now sadly closed, cos couldn't compete with their facilities, am sure Richard will verify)

.. on my 14.1 spooky Arab mare. The problems in our group were from novice, rich riders on expensive TBs or WBs...!! Not from us on what we love + work with. As ever. Let's move on...

Shorten stirrups, legs forward, look up, + enjoy your lovely mare xc!

Never get in front of the movement, always safer to stay behind itl Learnt that from Lucinda Green at Weetwood.

You've achieved so much with your horse, congratulations!
Love, BS x

How did you find out about this clinic?
It looks like fun! Your pony is a little star!

Could you pm me some details as it is exactly what im looking for?

Or if anyone else could recommend someone for help xc, who is encouraging and patient!!

(based in South Staffs, but can travel 1hr)

Thanks!

Thanks Brandysnap, yes richard told me to up my stirrups 2 holes but I only did them up one. lol My knee's hurt if I put them up too much. He was saying exactly the same about staying behind the movement, don't lean forward too soon etc then someone fell off and he told her off for being to forward too soon. I tend to get left behind!!!! Much safer. lol

Cate 21 I did this clinic through Delamere Riding Club as Kelsall is only 5 minutes away. Richard does alot of clinics etc for Delamere so I guess were lucky has he is very persuasive and old fashioned type instructor. No way would I have jumped them jumps if he hadn't have believed I could do it.
I don't know if all places do it but Kelsall had there BE event on the 18-19th April and this was then open for training for anyone for the rest of the week. There were lots of people there. Good luck. Somerford Park is great for training too.

Members have prefrence over places but none members allowed if places not filled but that's very unusual.

Hi all,

Let's not forget Weetwood Grange, who institigated xc idea in this area?

DFRC used them loads in past...
Before others with more money (some several million from dairy farming, as i understand?) took over + killed off.

Twas ever thus.

You've done great job, Karen, just ask around a bit more in the Kelsall area, please? You may well find an old gem.

With all best wishes, BS x

there's also smallwood which is a junction down the M6 from somerford.
well done...some of the jumps you did are HUGE is comparison to your clever little pony!

Hi Brandy Snap, Yes I know of Weetwood Grange. I went a few years ago with a friend. I dropped her off there. I couldn't ride at the time as I wasn;t well enough so didn't get to see the jumps etc. I know that we had a hell of a job getting contact details for Weetwood just to ring up to see if we could go.

Isn't it closed to the public now???
Were abouts are you???
