BH is 15.3 but wears a 6'9'' rug. I'm guessing Fergs doesn't even come close to that? I hope he doesn't or he is the most peculiar shaped pony and he looked very normal to me when I met him! :eek: And 5 inches doesn't sound like much difference on paper but in the flesh I can promise you there is a lot more of BH than there is of Fergs! He'd have to be positively anorexic to fit into a anything much smaller than a 46!!

Yes, I was thinking "only a few inches taller" but we're really talking 5" and that's height - he'll be more than 5" larger in circumference :eek: I was just having a muppet moment :eek:

I wasn't, for one second, suggesting he was fat. I can see he really isn't :o

He has been fat and I wouldn't mind if you called him fat. I call him much worse! Massive knobber that he is. I'd much rather people pointed out if they are looking portly as it can be hard to keep track of when you see them every day. Anywho, he is really quite a big lump. Even for a 15.3 horse he is 'big'. No one believes he is as little as he is. Somehow there is a lot of him :confused:

I own rugs for Nitty but she doesn't wear them. Not yet. But next year it will be clipped as I can't cope with the fluff anymore! It's going everywhere now she's moulting. Bleurghh.

Yes, some horses just seem "big" - he has rather a deep, long body and is rather barrel like - I mean conformationally not condition-wise and it isn't a criticism - compared to, for example Ned, who looks quite compact and relatively short of back (again not a criticism) and therefore seems smaller than 15'1. I thought BH was bigger from videos / photos than 15'3!

DH tells me you don't get mud in Cambridge like we have? I wouldn't rug F (other than when he's just clipped) if it weren't for the mud. I didn't bother to clip again in January so he doesn't really need rugged now, but if I turned him out in my field he would turn into some kind of brown mud monster :( As it is, I will be lazy, rug him and save on grooming :o

And now I really do feel guilty. TOTAL thread hijack...

Yes I am screwed...... blimmin yellow and manky grey thing :mad:....... he also cant be called compact unfortunatly as I rather like a compact pony, remind me why I brought it again?

I will find you a photo of the lack of mud at home tomorrow morning :D Some parts get mud but its not the same as essex mud.

Haha, everyone thinks it's MUST be red because that's what I dress myself/Ned in, but nope, lime green all the way! I'm even so cool as to have limegreen zebra striped jeans!! Height of fashion, me!

ETA - Dafthoss, I rode a little mare who was a similar colour and she looked gorgeous in yellow/black :D

And will be damnably jealous, I'm sure :cool: Still, I plan on moving up there next year so only one more year to hack :D My field was dry enough to lunge on this morning. Then it rained. ALL afternoon :mad:

FWIW, I do think Rob looks lovely in his red matchy matchy. When are you jumping? Tomorrow, or was it today?

When they aren't eating me out of house and home / jumping out of fields / generally being pigs, yes they are rather a nice bunch, thanks :o :)

Blimey. I'm not sure I could be seen in public in lime green zebra striped jeans :eek: I think that sight would have to come with a health warning :D Good think you're so slim! I have ridden in cow print jammies, but that is another story :cool:

I'm all for unusual :P I would honestly go all out Native American if I could ride bareback, haha! I pity Ned when I can get my claws into him properly :B He shall be the most decorated, colourful pony in the world!

Mind you, I'm terrible for dressing up and playing ponies... Quite often to be seen sporting cape and sword and playing Lord of the Rings :o

You should try bareback, possibly not on Ned, but if you can on something else. It does wonders for the seat ;)

I've had a walk and a trot bareback on Neddy, he was very good in walk and I felt safe...but my goodness trot is haaaard!! I managed a good canter on the old boy Blobby, but he built like a sofa, it was impossible to fall off that horse :P

Only cos she's soft as butter! She's one of the nicest people I've ever met! Sadly, J realises that too :o I've never seen him take the mickey so badly :cool:

Other solution is to keep your whip on the opposite side to the judge :D

Ha, that's what I say about J... He's actually got quite substantial withers, bareback so not "comfortable" but he doesn't let people fall off :o

It's worth persevering - if you can ride competently bareback, you can do anything with a saddle!

eta - it is also the most amazing feeling - jumping tackless, galloping bareback... As an aside, do you ever watch LoveRavenwood's videos on youtube?

Yea ^^ hopefully I can get some bareback time when I loan him, I've got all sorts of things planned for him :D
I managed a little jump without stirrups the other day, so perhaps no stirrups and then bareback is the way forwards :P

Just keep swapping hands! I tried to swap when I took F to clear round last nov, dropped my reins heading into a double, just gave up and resigned myself to a refusal / run out... And found myself on the other side of the double :D
