We are currently awaiting a referral to Rossdale at newmarket for my sister TB for his Protein loosing entropy. Were just waiting for insurance approval and some paper work to be sorted.hopefully hell be going beginning of feb.Hes going there as our vets been liasing with one of there head vets about his condition.

been looking on there website and it looks brilliant. just after some experiences from people, well horses who have been there.

also there are no costs mentioned on the website that i can find, just wondered if any one had any ideas of how much it was roughly?

I am actually quite scared at the prospect of him being sent off to hospital and what to expect. its making me feel quite anxious.

any info will be helpfull.

thank you.

A mare of ours had stem cell therapy there a couple of years ago and we had no complaints. After service was good too

they have very high standards and your sisters horse will be very well cared for a friends horse stayed there and was very relaxed throughout

Rossdales is quite local to us. Everyone there is very kind and helpful and these days you can even make yourself a cuppa. Having said that they are not God. Have taken 2 horses who went and returned with undiagnosed lameness. However although we were told they would only be able to lightly hack one carried on hunting and we lost him age 21 and the other is still going strong. So no worries, super place, super facilities and lovely people....he will be well looked after.

My mare has spent a fair bit of time there. She had an unidentified lameness for around a year and so was back and forth and eventually had key hole surgery and more recently she was there for a tie back and hobday (her insurance has definitely been worth while!!) She was always looked after brilliantly, the staff there are all lovely and their facilities are second to none.

I know of couple of people who work there and have known a couple of horses seen by them too. No they aren't gods but they will most definitely look after your neddy. I hope everything goes well for you

Been down to Newmarket a couple of times with horses. I went to AHT rather than Rossdale's though.

All I'd say is if you are using the A1 to get there, allow loads of time. The journey should take about 4 to 4.5 hours from here with a trailer, but the first time it took 6.5 hours because of one uncomplicated accident on the A1 which resulted in us sitting on the A1 going nowhere for an hour and a half. Don't know whereabouts you are travelling from, but worth allowing loads of time and having alternative routes in mind in case there are road closures along the way.

AHT do a pricelist which clients can ask for, which itemises everything. Pretty helpful if you are having to foot all/some of the bill. Don't know whether Rossdale's do similar, but you can always ask.

Good luck.

Sarah

I asked for a referral there for a full investigation of my chap's teeth. I found them to be excellent, they were very, very professional and although very busy (horses coming and going all the time) there was someone to help when we arrived, everything was really well organised, (we had a wait but had been forewarned), the vet was superb, as was the assistant and there was help to load when we left. Many horses from my area are referred there and I haven't heard a bad word. Hope all goes well for you.

Rossdales are great IMHO. would definitely reccomend them - they saved my boy on 3 occassions!! they where amazing when I had issues with insurance too.

Re communication - I think that depends on how much communication you ask for and which vet you have - I had a holiday booked during the 2 months Harry was there - my vet insisted that I go as I couldnt do anything to help him - he would text me from his personal mobile during his afternoon rounds whilst on was on the piste (skiing) to keep me updated so I didnt worry and would do his rounds early in the morning so that he could call me before I caught the bus to the slopes with a full update - he even personally went in on Christmas day, to check on him. he even humoured me when I got histerical (this did, Im ashamed to say, happen on more than one occassion!!)

I cant fault the level of care. I cant thank them enough for all they did for me and my boy.

we are local to rossdales and have had several dealings with them. I would highly recomend them, the staff are excellent and highly skilled. They are approachable and dont make you feel silly if you ask daft questions (if you know what I mean). The care is second to none and the stables were immaculate. One of mine had colic surgery there and recovered very well. Good luck you are in safe hands

thanks everyone. i know he'll be fine. a new experience for us as a family as in all the years weve had horses never had to have one hospitalised. theres always a first time for everything. weve just got to wait for the go ahead and then get him booked in.

hell be well and truely spoilt on there swish looking yard. updates will follow.

Another person singing the praises of Rossdales and their staff. 3 trips/stays there for my 2 boys (colic surgery, colic monitoring and a mystery illness). Other horses from the yard have also been there for various different things.

From the moment my boys arrived, the staff looked after them like their own, talked to them, fussed them etc. You can feel totally confident that everyone there from the vets/surgeons to the stable hands will have the best interests of your horse at heart.

The bill on each ocassion was fully itemised and I am sure that they could give you a rough estimate in advance of treatment.

Good luck.

They are fab, and are cheaper than my usual vet for a lot of stuff. Of course, the more specialised stuff is expensive.

I had three trips to Rossdales with my girl who sadly did not come home with us on the third visit...Rossdales were brilliant, had no communication problems and they could not have handled the end result better or more sympathetically. I would have no qualms about going back.

My late gelding went there, he'd gashed himself badly in his sheath region. they did sort him out and sent him back after a week with carrybag full of drugs,he died a year later, he never really was back to his normal self, but I put that down to the amount of drugs he was put on, but that is my opinion.

2 of my horses have been
.I will never forget after a fraught drive down the a1 driving in with my welsh cob who had an impaction colic and needed surgery ,the relief of the vet team waiting for me. She made a full recovery .
Second time different horse, bilateral neurectomy for suspensory damage and several check ups .
Both horses weRe there for some time and communication, care, aftercare was excellent .
Good place to be really.

You beat me too it lou, I was just about to post a thread!

Had 4 horses there and numerous trips over the last two years. First was an emergency colic which sadly resulted in the loss of my gelding. The operation was successful in terms of the gut surgery, but unfortunately something went wrong and he couldn't use his back legs afterwards. Not their fault I don't think, just the fact of weighing around 800kg and being on his back for so long poor chap. Cost £3k. Second was my mare with a broken shoulder and torn biceps tendon. Excellent treatment all round but sadly nothing they could do, cost £1.5 k. She is happily retired though permanently lame. Third was my other gelding. Kicked in the field on his hock and operated on. Stayed there a week and they were fabulous. Looked after him well and he has made a full recovery. Cost £4 k. Fourth was a client's mare. They diagnosed a problem that was missed by Animal Health Trust. She stayed a few days and was well looked after. Cost £1.5 k All in all I would recommend them.

weve got our vet coming tuesday for a check up will chat to him about money and if he doesnt know ill give them a call next week. its always handy to know roughly what to expect just incase there are insurance issues. thanks every one.

I can honestly say that Rossdales is the most amazing place you will ever see with regard the the people that work there and the place. I have had 3 of my horses go there for 3 seperate things and have no complaints at all. The staff are all professional and caring.

My first experience of them was for bilateral suspensory ligament surgery with my show jumper who has a chip on his shoulder (bit like victor meldrew). I was concerned with how they would cope with him especially at feed time but he was well looked after. Communication was fantastic - would often get phone calls from the vet at 10pm just to let me know how he was.

My NF got taken there whilst I was on holiday due to colic where he had to have surgery but unfortunately did not pull through 2 days afterwards. It was about 10-11pm at night and mum and dad said that as soon as they pulled up the lorry ramp had been opened and they were getting the pony out and straight into surgery before they had time to get out the cab. Unfortunatley on the recommendations of the vet he was pts as my plane landed (did not know at the time what was happening). However the vet had said that if we had any questions or if we wanted to go over there and meet him and talk about what had happened he was quite happy (whether that be in the following days, weeks or months).

My other horse got taken there and was diagnosed with kissing spine. They were amazing the whole waythrough. Even spoke to the vet a year after surgery as I was having issues and he replied the same day (even though it was his day off!!!!)

Your horse could not be in better hands. I even got to see the scans, assessment process etc

Rossdales is fantastic.

You and your horse will be well taken care of.

Fabulous premises, fabulous team cannot praise them enough.

Just to say what everyone else has said - your horse will be well looked after and you will be kept informed of everything. Rossdales are my own vets (have been for about 20 years plus now) and believe me, we know most of them and can call them friends now (2 of them are in my racing syndicate). What vet have you been referred to? Let me know when you're going, as I work close by (run mobile snack bar) and we get a fair few Rossdale clients come to us for a reassuring chat and a cup of tea whilst their horse is being examined or operated on. We also get the vets come for their brunch too.

As for prices - we sometimes find that they are cheaper than friends who have their local vets out to them. Ask them for a rough idea of what you will be expecting to pay.

Good luck and let us know when you're going and who you're seeing - most of them are very approachable and ask them to explain everything to you in "idiot language" - I still do.

thank you everyone.

from what i gather he will be seeing Andrew Mc.......... erm i cant remeber the last bit. how rude of me. well that is who has been liasing with my local vet anyway and his name is on his medical notes.

fingers crossed the insurance pull there finger out so we can get him there asap.

Rossdales did the vetting on my horse, plus a follow up scan. Both vets I dealt with were very helpful and the facilities were excellent. I just wish they were near enough to use as my regular vet!

Would never use them again as they missed a number of things in one of my mares (being arthiritis) Newmarket Equine Hospital is fantastic and diagnosed not just that but a number of other problems, they have world class facilities. Also I worked at the National Stud for a bit and although they are their designated vets they werent that great while i was there

Not read all posts but we were rushed there one sunday evening. Staff were all really good. Expalined all options / costs etc. I was surprised at the costs as they were less than expected. As it was mainly closed we sat in the waiting room / reception area but it was nice, loads of magazines / drinks / biscuits.

When Dizz was there, I rang in the morning to ask how she was doing, which I had done when I had a horse at the AHT. They weren't as helpful as the AHT had been. Caused a bit of stress. When I went to pick up my horse, hardly anyone around (it was a Saturday or Sunday, can't remember which). D1 and I just went into the yard and took her. Couldn't find half my gear, though it appeared eventually. Her new stable rug was ripped - they said it was too big, I asked why they had used it if they thought it too big (it was obviously just out of the packet). She had two rugs on, a fleece under the too big stable rug (with the tear along the side). No-one to explain what she had had done - I went to take her rugs off and sort her out because things were hanging down all over the place, and cried when I saw her bum, it had been shaved and she had lost weight and looked awful. I appreciate that she is a stresshead and had stressed the weight away over the week, but someone there to just explain what I would see when the rugs came off, etc., would have been appreciated. At the AHT there's always been someone in the yard and they've been able to talk me through the basics, though I've obviously discussed the finer points with the vet.

As far as I am aware, the vet care side of things for the horse were fine and I don't have any issue with that side of Rossdales at all. For me and my horses, I found that that AHT has provided the full package, as it were.

Fingers crossed for your lad and I hope all comes well with him. Thinking of him and you/your sister.

They are fab- The girls were outstanding and the coblet was as happy as an injured neddy can be. The vets were informative, polite and didnt patronise you at all.
i can safely say top marks all round xx
